My deville a 1994 with the 4.9liter engine overheated this afternoon I got a "a/c compressor off" and a "engine coolant hot" and "stop engine" warnings. So I stopped and parked the car and shut it off,I pop the hood and there was coolant all over the engine block. Upon closer inspection under the hood I noticed that the hose that runs to the back of the motor is hanging there like it pulled itself loose, and it looks like this hose is what sprayed collant all over. So I got a ride from a friend of mine who was meeting me for coffee and got a hose clamp and some coolant.

I pushed the hose back on and clamped it and filled the coolant tank back up and drove it home. On the way home I got the "engine coolant hot" and "stop engine" warnings again then they went off and diddn't come back on the rest of the way home. my questions are is it possible that its just the broken hose that is the only culprit here for my overheating? I can hear my cooling fan kicking on and got no trouble codes when doing a diognostic,if my cooling fan wasen't working woulden't I get some codes from this? Last thing is whats this hose called?,it appears to run to radiator to the back of the engine from what I can see. Also do you guys think I did any damage getting it home? I o nly drove it about maybe 10 miles if that after putting the hose back on and adding new coolant thanks guys for any help.

i had the same thing happen on my way to work , but it was the plastic flow control valve common failure , it just cracked , i would double check that. the hose is called heater core hose if you look closer you will see that there are three hoses that meet up just replace the hoses shouldnt cost much, and no you didnt do any damage as long as you let the car cool down a little.

Ok roquesr so replacing the hose should fix the problem? And where is this plastic flow control vavle located so I can check it?

If the engine was hot enough to display all these warnings, you should change the oil ASAP. Cheap insurance.

Make sure you get a FACTORY T, not an aftermarket one. Else you will be back here this winter complaining of no heat....

Good advice on oil change, if water entered anywhere, you can severely damage your engine by running it with water in the oil.

I would also be concerned about the oil reaching a critical temperature.

Change it!!!!!!

Also, if replacing the "T", pay attention to which leg has the restriction in it and replace it the same way.

the flow control valve is right behind the engine { T} cant miss it at the top, dont get the cheap aftermarket T it will break , the heater hose should be connected with only a clamp ,should be able to get it . good luck
