I have a 1968 CoupeDeville. I want to cut the springs on it for now. Has anyone on here done it on an older caddy, if so how many coils in the front & rear? Im thinking 1 1/2 Coils in the front, and 2 in the rear. I want to bring it down about 3".
You might want to scope out some Full Size Chevy Impala/Caprice forums, there were lots more of them, although they are lighter, you might get a better idea.
I would start with 1 coil myself. They are easy to pull in the rear, in the front, not too bad, just be safe. Often you can pull them without a spring compressor, just use the cars weight to hold it down and then slowly jack up the car (lower the a-arm jack) once the ball joint is loose. Do not pop the ball joint until the a-arm is fully supporting the weight of the car! I know a guy who used to wear a motorcycle helmet when ever he did springs!
