I know there are many post about this but I read the tutorial and it confused the %$#^ out of me. The blue wire with the white line is the 12V wire. So which wire is ground? Also it talks about a red and green wire what are those good for?

Also it talks about a red and green wire what are those good for?One of them initiates a 'Self Destruct' mechanism in the CTS but for security reasons we can't tell you which one sets it off.........

DOH!! j/k!

Well I was reading and thinking and noticed the cadillacfaq is talking about a phone line. My Cobra 9700 came with the cord to do the hardwire install so it just has 2 wires I would imagine 1 needs to go to the 12v and the other to ground. How do I know which one goes to where and how do I know which wire from the connector for the overhead console is ground? I know the blue with a white line is 12v. (I have a pretty expensive fluke multi meter is there a way to check which wire is ground using the mutlimeter?)

Blue/Stripe = 12V
Black = Ground

What are you talking about? You just cut your detector line to the proper length(2 wires) and use the T splices to tap the two wires in the OEM bundle(Blue Stripe & Black). You don't need any kit. By the way I have the Cobra 9700 also.

Yes but mine came with both cables the one you connect to the ashtray plug and another thinner wire to hardwire connect it. I kinda rather save the ashtray connector for future use or if I need to drive a different car I can just use it then.

I wouldn't let it slow you down. You can buy the cigarette cord almost anywhere at a later date.

Yea if I dont find it in the next couple days I will splice it.
BTW why do people keep talking about using a phone cord to do the hardwire install?

Because the radar detectors have a phone jack input, so you use a phone cord for the power supply...I just did mine yesterday.

My Radar Detector doesn't use a phone line it uses a normal pin connection.

Oh, wait, you're hard-i-wing-ing your radar detector. I don't think the normal instructions will work. :histeric: Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :alchi:

Escort & Beltronics use moduler connectors that look like a telephone plug. The other brands have a round connector.

It is so cool when you unlock the doors with the remote and the radar is powering up....:thumbsup:
