View Full Version : A Full Tanks Equals --- Miles? youbetcha77 08-21-05, 10:13 PM Anybody with a 4.9, how many miles can you put on a full tank of fuel? Im talking filling it up as much as you can and driving it till 2 gallons or the solid lit "E". For those of you that dont drive yours till its that low then it doesnt matter. But for those that do, what are you getting? I know some people are going to chime in and say that driving it till it says "E" is hard on the fuel pump. I have drove my 90 Seville till the E was even flashing a few times and have never had to replace the fuel pump. I fill it up and drive it till it says 2 or E and then fill it up again. Running them out of gas is what is hard. My mom never let hers go below a quarter tank. When the Sept. 11th thing happened, everyone bought gas and run the stations out of fuel. It then dipped to a eighth and screwed up some fuel injectors because the whole time she never let it go below a quarter all the water that eventually builds up in a tank filled up to that level and it started sending almost straight water to the engine. Keep it burned down and you gradually get rid of the miniscul amounts of water. HEET is the worlds worst thing on a fuel pump too because it can eat the windings out of it if it isnt mixed right. I wonder why I got on a soapbox for. Dang, it happens everytime I try to keep a post simple. Sorry.
Anyhow, everybody tell me what yours is doing.
Blaze About 246 miles on the Sixty, combination around town stop & go and highway. youbetcha77 08-22-05, 12:38 PM Mine usually gets 300 and when its straight highway it can do 360, but not lately.
Blaze Ummm. Differance of fifty miles? Maybe I had a little more gas left in tank than you measured with. youbetcha77 08-22-05, 12:53 PM I doubt yours will get good mileage until it starts getting drove. You have a lot of idling going on with yours.
Blaze chuckdobbins 08-22-05, 01:31 PM back when i had the car, the highest was 297. i was SO close to hitting 300. it was usually somewhere around 250 My wife, who keeps meticulous records, told me the most she has gotten was 375 miles on her 2002 DHS. ElDawgg 2G 08-22-05, 06:29 PM Hello...
I have on several occasions left AtlantaGA with a very full tank (18.5 gals)
and driven to LouisvilleKY (315 mi),
then filled up and continued to LansingMI (315 mi).
One time I put 18 gals in at Louisville,
so I know I coasted in on fumes! Night Wolf 08-22-05, 06:50 PM around town... usually about 270 miles. youbetcha77 08-23-05, 01:25 AM My wife, who keeps meticulous records, told me the most she has gotten was 375 miles on her 2002 DHS.
Well thats a Northstar. but hey its a good comparison. How much fuel does it hold, by the book?
Blaze I~LUV~Caddys8792 08-23-05, 01:37 AM well my calculations say that at 16.3 mpg average, i should get about 293 miles to a tank, but i fill up at about 250 when it says 2 gal left, but the GM gas guages are BS, the one in my roadmaster wasnt digital and when it was full, the needle went about an inch past Full, i hate GM's gas guages, is there any way to fix this problem? crimson tide 09-11-05, 03:39 PM Driving around town 325 to the 18 gallon tank. When I go to New York from Maryland 240 to destination in NY it uses just above half then I have to fill up just after the delaware turnpike at the Maryland House rest stop on the return and the numbers have read as high as 450 depending on how much driving I did while in NY before the return. What a car!! This with an average speed of 65-75 mph cruise controlled. In day count, I drive 60 miles round trip to and from work.If I fill up on Sunday night I don't fill up again until friday afternoon and the level is still abovethe E and the digital reads between 50-60 miles left before empty. The message usually chimes LOW FUEL at 50 miles left! What a car!!!:) Stoneage_Caddy 09-11-05, 03:57 PM 260 miles , but thats with 4 gallons left ...
ive pryed as high as 428 miles out of a tank that was with it just flashing the "e" as i pulled in for a fill up ....that was a 1/2 70 mph 1/2 55mph trip down south , parking the car basicly just off the exit and then turning it around and headeing home after a 2 day stay at the track...the fuel load was a text book GM fill up , and a GM text book driving style , and i did beatter than the Govt Mpg rateings for the car ....
ill run to flashing e this week and see what happens , i dont do it often but itll be interesting to see how far it will go ... youbetcha77 09-11-05, 04:04 PM 260 miles , but thats with 4 gallons left ...
