Finally did something with all that amber on the front end. I pre-cut the film and fit it over the light. They are dark, but still light up well. I just need to do the tail lights. I had the fog lights/turn signals both tinted last year (like Robert's), but everyone told me it looked like it was missing something, so I cut it in half. What do you guys think?

Reminds me of clear corners, except smoked. I actually don't like the amber driving lights one bit...I might do something like this if I can't find a way to just turn the driving lights off. It looks great on the grey though.

I think they suck, now a days everything is HID and "cool-blue" and we're stuck with these huge amber DRL's. If I could swap them out with something similar to the SRX lights that will be great, until then, these will do! But either way, to each their own.

I do like your signature.. very clean.

I think it will look even better on a black or moonstone:

I honestly dont think the black shade goes with the color of your car I think it only looks good on a black car. But that isjust my opinion I am sure there are many people that dont like my mods.

I still think black flows better with grey than amber would. Its just takes some getting used to. Also, its looks real dark (almost black) in the pics, but its really smoked, and the amber shows through in the light.

You can use a Tech2 to program the car to not use the DRL's. There is also an option to use the parking lamps (including side markers and taillights) as DRL's. The dealer should be able to do this. The only question is if they will agree to do it and how much they will charge. If you can borrow a Tech2 from someone who works for GM, that's even better.

If the dealer tries to give you crap by saying it's not possible, it definately is. I have sat in my car and messed around with the setting personally.

Smoke,

As you know I've been playing with the amber/fogs for some time. I agree with most that it works best with black, blue onyx and dark gray. I suggest you use a much lighter tint. That's what's on my car now. You can easily see thru it but the amber color is gone.

What I'm anxious to try next is NiteShade tinting. When I get my CTS-V fogs that I ordered, I'll spray them on the work bench. I'll spray it heavier at the top amber and fade it as it transends into the fog. That would look a lot better IMO. Your transition is to abrupt I think.

Agreed. And the Caddy's are so unique in brightness and size that you can tell another Caddy driver from far away. I like them.

There are so many of us that hate the amber lenses that some company should come up with a clear lens for us. I have no problem using an amber bulb in the clear case like the STS. I wonder how many orders a company would require to mold us some clear lenses?

I agree with you on the transition and the need for lighter tint, however, this entire process took me less than half an hour. I will probably get a much lighter tint (maybe even a dark silver tint) for the DRL's and side markers. I'll use the VHT nite shades for the tail lights.

The ONLY reason I'm using NiteShade is the fogs are out of the car. Doing the tint spray with them installed would be very difficulf IMO.

Sticker City had the fog covers available in several tint colors.

"They stand out" is the key. Some of us see that as a "Bling" factor and contrary to the stealth look. Same applies to the amber side lights IMO.

Meh...I never gave them a 2nd thought either way.

I guess if it bothered me enough to make a change, my preference would be a clear lens with an amber bulb.

I'm finally getting around to actually wanting to do this. Mbai, or anyone else in the know, how would I go about obtaining one of these Tech2 programmers and would it even be a good idea for me to be playing around with it on my own? Basically, how hard is it to do. I might be able to get a hold of one..might. Thanks.

And my guess is that those rims are HRE's...but just a guess.

i just e-mailed my buddy at GM and asked him to do some research on "acquiring" one of these tech2's. i know nothing about them as far as size, complexity, or anything else. maybe he can offer some insight.

i think i know exactly whos wheels those are, but i drew a blank with the name. if they are who i think, they are all custom made 3 piece wheels. very light and bad ass. i'll try to remember the site and post it. i know i have it at my home PC...

by the way, does anyone have a brake light they want to send me? i can disassemble it and see what maybe could be done with LEDs. possibility that you may be able to fit a vector board in there with some hardware and an LED configuration. i don't want to jack my brake light up though tinkering.

No, rims that fit on the CTS-V will not fit on a regular CTS with out modification.
The CTS-V uses a 6 lug bolt pattern where the CTS uses 5 lug bolt pattern.

Those wheels are specific to the V, and pricey.

As to Amber DRLs, I can see a CTS from a mile away! The whole idea of them is to draw attention to prevent accidents. I know that they are not universally well received, but I like them.

Just a thought...

Not sure if this is true or not because I'm still dreaming of owning a CTS and don't actually have one yet, but...

Do the Daytime running lights not turn off when the e-brake is on? Most cars I've seen will turn the DRL's off if the e-brake is on. If that's the case then it should be relatively easy to find the switch that activates when the e-brake is on and bypass it somehow?

Actually the DRL's are regulated by the transmission stick. They turn on when you put in gear, off when you put it in park. There might be a contact switch underneath the shifter tunnel that is pushed or contact activated when you put it in or out of park.(It could also be a position sensor). I believe RobertCTS has the CTS repair manuels and might be able to take a peek and see.

the guy i know at GM told me last night that the tech2 (T2 in the undustry) is more of a diagnostics tool. apparently, you can re-program things but they will default back to original once the ignition is reset or turned on.

he thinks the programmer that you can permanently re-program things is called something like "alfie," from what he has heard. i'm still trying to see if he can let me borrow a t2 or "alfie"

so whos's gonna send me a brake light to play with?

That sounds about right. The first reaction I got when I asked someone I know at a dealer was "What do you need to diagnose?". And if it's true that it would default back to original settings when the ignition is turned on, then this definitely isn't the piece we're looking for. Can you see if your buddy can shed any more light on this? Or Mbai?

You guys aren't talking about an opaque paint on the amber lens but a transparent right?

Any thoughts on covering the ambers with platinum tint? I like the mod, but may be intrested in trying a platinum overlay rather than a black or smoke.

They have tint in most shades: red, blue, yellow,.., platinum. If I get the chance, I'll be redoing mine in a dark silver platinum. Hopefully, I'll find something that matches the same shade as the lower fog lights. As for what I have now, I am content with them, esp. since it required no $$ or time.
