This is the second Fleet that I've had trouble with the door handles. Does anyone have a special trick that you can use to get them going and to keep them from seizing up?
I have two doors that don't work properly. Front passenger opens from the inside but not from the outside and the rear drivers side doesn't open from either in or out.
Any ideas?
Paid $200 for the car. 107K and just needed an oil change and a tune up. Other than these little cosmetic issues, I think it was a good deal.

That's a beautiful Brougham, but I think you might have posted in the wrong Fleetwood section. This is FWD.
you got a great deal!
Good luck with your handles...

I assume you are referring to a 1991 rear-wheel-drive Brougham, and not a front-wheel-drive Fleetwood. Anyway, that has happened on my dad's 90 Brougham and my 91 Brougham, both on the front passenger door. Both times it was caused by someone trying to open the door from the inside while the doors were unlocking. If it's the same problem I had, the inside door lock knob is all loose, and when you pull up on it, it just sinks back down. The knob is connected to a metal rod, which runs to the lock/latch assembly. A small piece of metal on the assembly which connects to this rod has broken-off. The only thing it is still connected to is the power door lock actuator. The way I fixed it was to go to a Cadillac dealer, buy a new latch assembly ($90something) and replace the broken one. You have to remove the door panel to get to it, and small hands to reach inside the door. If you're lucky, you may come across a trashed 90-92 Brougham in the junkyard somewhere and get a used one for $10. I say 'lucky' because I've been going to salvage yards since '99 and I've only seen 3 of this bodystyle in all the lots I've visited. As for the back door, same thing happened to my old 88 Brougham, and I had to take it to Cadillac to get it fixed. they had to replace the latch and the outside door handle. Set me back $400! For future reference, don't attempt to open the door during the half-second it takes for the doors to unlock. Possibly, someone may have tried to steal the car using a slim-jim and jacked-up the linkages.

I've never had a problem with them. Take the door panel off and see if there's something broken.
Thats a really good price for it. You can't even get one for $2,000 around here. Then again you hardly even see any for sale around here too.
