I pulled into the dealership today to pick up my car and I saw a Redline V with stock chrome rims. I asked the service guy if those are coming from the factory. He called parts and the guy said they are chroming them now. Asked if they will do a wheel swap and how much they were. They will do a wheel swap and 1000 bucks for the chrome rims. I was quoted 1000 by serveral different places but the cool thing is there is no wait dealing with the dealerships. They will arrive tomorrow morning and they will put them on my car tomorrow. I wanted to let all you guys know so that you don't have to wait a long time to get them done.

A wheel swap sounds like they are sending them out to be chromed, not factory ones. It does sound like a good easy way to go.

I got mine done for $700 shipping included. Took 2 weeks from when it left here to get back here. I just bought a used set off eBay, they arrived really banged up, I thought beyond repair. The chromer fixed them at no cost, chromed them and now they are perfect. The good part is now I have a set of chrome summer rims/tires and a set of winter rims/tires.

I don't follow you a wheel swap means you give up yours for another set. They are coming from the factory chromed and you can also buy them as an option on the V. There is no second party I am dealing with a Cadillac Dealership.

Ford did this same thing on my 2003 Cobra. The Chrome wheels were an option, but they ran into production delays. So when they were finally ready, they offered current owners a chance to swap their painted wheels for chrome for $700. I took my car in, signed a letter, and two hours later the chromies were on my car.

Chrome, hmmmm....

I'm saying when does GM ever take back parts in a swap? Or even rarer when does a service guy at the dealership know what's up with a V?

It's entirely possible GM is chroming V rims now, but I've never heard of it. If they are taking your rims in a swap they are probably giving you after-market chromed rims. Who cares anyway a good after market chromer doing show quality stuff would be better than factory anyway.

I know with Silvy SS's so many rims were getting chromed most dealerships bought an extra set and they would do swaps then send your rims to the chromer for the next guy that wants a swap.

Also a lot of the chromers will do advanced exchange. Charge you $1,000. When you get the chrome rims put them on and send your rims back, when the chromer gets them they refund you $250. I know on Silvy SS's and GTO's this is common, the V might have low enough numbers that they don't have rims to do this with.

Sorry for stepping on your thread, I just hadn't heard of factory chrome rims and would question that the dealership knows what they are talking about.

First off why in the world would I make this up? If it's not a big why get so defensive? Don't you think I posted the thread because I hadn't heard of it either? The wait time on chrome stockers is absurd and this is a lot better option.

If chrome V wheels exist from GM - get the part number from the dealer so we all can order some. :)

Sorry, not trying to piss you off. I never thought you were making this up.

So let me be clear. I've never heard of chrome rims from GM for our V's. So I am questioning that the dealer was giving you accurate information.

Yes, I want on the "chrome" wagon. I've been waiting for two months now for my chrome wheel exchange. If I can get them from GM, I'm cancelling my order.

Vogue tyres makes a chrome 18 and 20" wheel that looks similar to the stock wheels

The chrome looks great, but they are NOT, NOT, NOT coming from LGR like that. The dealer is aquiring the part through a vendor that is providing the chromed wheel. The factory Speedline wheels for '06 are same as '04 & '05 - no change other than the center cap, with cadillac crest over black instead of the silver matte finish.

I wonder what happens to all the "previously enjoyed" painted rims people are trading back to GM?

I would like to get ahold of a set of those for a good price...

Anybody have a part number on that black center cap? I saw them on the V at the Detroit auto show, and they looked very good, especially on the exceptionally fast black car... :duck:

That's kind of my point. I don't think GM is doing that. I don't think the dealership in this case has a clue. I think the someone at the dealership is sending the regular rims off to a chromer and when they come back trading them out with a customer.

My dealer did a "chrome exchange" on my wheels. The Vogue manager took a set of factory painted wheels off of a new CTS-V, replaced them with Vogue chrome wheels, then sent the painted factory wheels to the chromer. When he received the chromed factory wheels back from the chromer, he swapped them for my painted wheels. The chrome factory wheels look great, and if I could get chrome factory wheels as an option on my next V, that is what I would order.

As most of you already know. Please make sure to keep those beautiful chrome rims clean and dry, especially with all the brake dust our Brembo brakes produce. Just my .02

Ames your right I called in today to get the part number and the parts guy told me that what he originally said was wrong. They send the rims off to a 3rd party and give the customer a set thats already been done. Sorry guys they received a brand new redline off the truck and it had chrome rims so they thought it was coming from the factory.
