View Full Version : Leather Conditioner; to use or not to use? AccElan01 08-18-05, 01:11 PM I've never used leather conditioner, but have been told by many to do so. The owners manual says not to use oils or conditioners, and to only wipe with a damp cloth.
What should I do? Follow the owners manual and use a damp cloth, or follow advice and use leather conditioner?
 Devil_concours 08-18-05, 01:34 PM definitely use. canaveral 08-18-05, 02:08 PM I use Lexol on all my cars with leather malcolm 08-18-05, 02:22 PM Lexol for sure. They make a spray and wipes. Buffs to a nice matt finish. SdMarineGuy 08-18-05, 02:29 PM I use Meguiars leather cleaner/conditioner. collapsed 08-18-05, 02:46 PM I use Turtle Wax leather Cleaner first, then I use an aerosol protector from Wilsons Leather second (6oz. 2uses). It makes my leather soft, and looking brand new every time I use it. Cant even tell that anyone has sat in the seats before. Not oily whatsoever and leather is very healthy with no drying. MEGUIARS GOLD CLASS LEATHER Products!!!! AznPrydeRegalRyde 08-18-05, 06:06 PM Like Marine and NY said. Meguairs is my choice for qaulity versus price. It has a high level of natural oils in it. Not synthetic residue. I use Meguier's leather conditioner on all my seats at least once a week. I've had my car since April 2004, and the interior is flawless. No wrinkles or cracks in my leather. malcolm 08-18-05, 07:10 PM Wow, sounds like Meguier's is a real favorite around here. Someone on another thread mentioned that they don't list the ingredients on the container and were suspicious that it could contain silicon. I use lots of Meguier's products outside the car but was a little scared to try the leather products. Anyone know what's in it? Wow, sounds like Meguier's is a real favorite around here. I'm not sure, but I've been using it at the very least, once a week, ever since I got my car (April '04), and my seats look like they've never been sat on. I don't care what's in it, lol, it works :) AznPrydeRegalRyde 08-18-05, 09:35 PM Wow, sounds like Meguier's is a real favorite around here. There are alot of natural oils in Meguiars, including lanolin and mink oils.
Just a few tips.
Use a sponge to apply cleaner and work it into a lather.
Scrub a small area at a time. A sq.ft is a really good size to tackle. 1 or 2 minutes is enough. Wipe off access.
Apply conditioner with a thin foam applicator using the same sq.ft process.
Let soak for 2 or 3 minutes. By then, the leather has soaked up all the conditioner it can, and the excess will evaporate and leave a film on your windows. So wipe off that excess!
By the way guys. I previously have said that water is bad for your leather. Well, I've since been proven wrong by someone in the detailing business ( he has detailed car's for many Hollywood movies, including the contract from 'Gone in 60 Seconds'.) Most new leather is tanned with water, and as long as you don't leave the water on the leather, it's ok to use between cleanings. Well, unless you are one sweaty dude, or you leave your windows open all the time, once a week is major overkill. But, when it comes to cleaning/conditioning (as long as you apply correctly, no hash products or applicators) overkill isn't a bad thing.

lol I love my car man. I very rarely drive with the windows down. But I'm a lil obsessed... If it rains when I'm out, I'll wash the car the second I get home. My car's never dirty, unless it's winter, then I take it to the coin wash every other day. AznPrydeRegalRyde 08-19-05, 12:18 AM lol I love my car man. I very rarely drive with the windows down. Haha, good stuff. Shows good character.
I just re-read my post. I didn't mean 'hash' products, haha. I meant 'harsh'...altho hash and its buddies will leave a mess too. My interior is midnight blue and I have noticed that a few spots on the passenger seat have a few "light" spots. The leather is still soft and in great condition because of regular maintenance with English Leather cleaner and Lexol, but I was wondering what would be a good product to touch up the leather spots without getting a two tone effect ? whatever's on sale!
