View Full Version : Alternative to 95 FWB?? abdullahone 08-16-05, 06:37 PM :ill: I bought my 95 FWB about 4 months ago. I looked at atleast 10 other FWBs before buying this one. It is super low miles (60K only). I replaced brakes and rotors all round and overhauled the front end and put in new tires. Now, I need some money and will have to sell it. I am sure I won't find another FWB with this low miles again. I particularly love the LT1 5.7 litre engine for its 265 horses.
Is there any other comparable cadillac of later years (1999+) that I can buy later (when I am able to put together some $$). theres nothing compared to a Fleetwood Brougham. sucks you gotta sell it though. the 99 Devilles have the 275 hp FWD Northsar. same for any Deville except for DHS' wich have either 290 or 300 hp FWD Northstars. CTSs (depends on model year) have anywhere between 210-255 (rwd, not a N*. Seville/ STS/ SLS have 300 hp N* (fwd) and the Eldo/ ETC has the 300 hp N* (fwd).
but nothing compares to a mid 90s Fleetwood. nothing. I~LUV~Caddys8792 08-16-05, 07:57 PM what do you mean nothing compares to the fleetwoods? ocjmakaveli 08-16-05, 08:04 PM As far as a better RWD car you won't find anything better unless your into non-luxury roadmaster/caprice/impala ss type cars.
IMO though if your looking for a modern caddy then the 2000+ devilles are incredible if you can afford the price tag.
For me though the fleetwood is the most economical all parts are incredibly cheap since the roadmaster/caprice/impala ss parts are all interchangeable with our cars the car is very easy to work on.
The thing that really wowed me with the fleetwood was I have never driven any car even close in size that could compete with the raw stock horsepower that it has.
As for miles don't worry there are many enthusiasts that have theres cars for sale with even as low as 15000 miles on their cars yet you can expect to pay about $15000 for those cars but it might be worth it.
You'll just have to look around online on many different sites to find a low mileage caddy. Who knows maybe I'll be willing to sell in a few years my car currently has about 53000 miles mostly stock well kind of all new stock parts though.
Good luck don't worry there are always caddys around and worst comes to worst just buy a caddy with a 100k and rebuild the sucker it'll most likely come out to the same price in the end as if you had bought the caddy with low miles to begin with BUT you can make it better in the process so just look around there are lots of caddys that are floating around with low miles. Your Fleetwood sounds nice, where are you located and how much are you looking to get for it? Thanks all for the help. I agree that nothing can replace a mid nineties FWB. A low mileage one sells for more than 10K WOW. Mine has only 60K and I am selling it for $7000 firm!! May be I should increase the price OR may be in Madison, WI Caddy's don't fetch that much. WHO KNOWS.... I bought my 94 FWB in Fitchburg for $3800. 148K though. http://www.cadillacforums.com/cadillac-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=481&sort=2&cat=8&page=1 is the link to the car I bought. This one has the factory towing package too.
I would love one with lower miles, but considering how solid it is now with 163400 miles, it is almost a moot point!
Just looked at yours at http://www.cadillacforums.com/cadillac-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=877 and it looks awesome!!! I love the black ones.... scurling 08-17-05, 07:48 PM Looks great. I just love those chrome factory wheels. Mine are the satin version. cmgrafmc 08-17-05, 08:12 PM What a shame. (Although, personally, I really don't care for the trunk on those years. And they're too round on the sides. And they're ugly. =P )
The 2000-2005 (?) Devilles are really good looking, esp. those pearl-glow ones with the chrome wheels. I keep telling my grandpa, 91, to get a new one so I can buy his. Those DTSs are hot! Just watch out for piston slap. Luckily, our Cadillac service rep. got GM to replace all the pistons, seals, etc. at no charge. =) Mine are too, I love the chromed versions too. I might go after a set. Maybe that is why I like my winterwheels, they are older (unk what year) Cad hubcaps, but look great. Now, to get the winter tires on the 15 x 8in truck wheels....
Looks great. I just love those chrome factory wheels. Mine are the satin version. scurling 08-17-05, 09:58 PM Nodih: I saw a set of the chrome version on ebay a few months ago for $250. each. There are wheel companies that sell the Cadillac RWD factory wheels for about the same price. At that price, I will wait and buy a nice set of aftermarket 18" chrome units.
I really like the style of HotRodSaint's wheels. In the fasion of the old Crager S/S chrome wheels (which can still be purchased new). $250 each!??!?!? Good gosh! I can get a NEW set of Impala SS wheels from GM for $500-$600 for all 4 with center caps!! They are ripoffs.... Yup, buying new and getting what you want is best. Heck, that is near NEW price for them, wasn't it a $1200 option?
Needless to say that is my future plans..... abdullahone 08-18-05, 01:17 PM I bought my 94 FWB in Fitchburg for $3800. 148K though. http://www.cadillacforums.com/cadillac-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=481&sort=2&cat=8&page=1 is the link to the car I bought. Can't beleive it. I drove your car before you bought it. I was thinking to buy it but you came to the seller same night and bought it right away. Aren't you the one living in Dells, WI. Oh my gosh! I had a major heart break that night. But then I found this beauty the very next day. Now I have to let it go too.:crying: Nope, I live down near Delevan WI. He told me there was someone else looking from up north. Don't know if there ever was. I drove it and then got the $ and picked it up a week or so later. Never know though, we may have been close to crossing paths!
I didn't think there was many other people on the forums from WI. abdullahone 08-18-05, 06:42 PM That means you are the third person. The WI Dells guy might be the one living up north. Anyway, If you come to Madison anytime give me buzz at (608) 833-1808. We can probably show each other our cars. (I have already seen yours, Haha!!) Yup! Wow. Small world eh?
Will do, I would love to see yours, it is pretty sharp. I love the black ones. I picked up the car around Feb 20th or so. We ran into one of those trees on the driveway in my Suburban the first time we went up there. I felt the car was sluggish to me, I got it home and redid the throttle linkage and it really came alive for power. It was getting maybe 3/4 throttle tops. Yes, it does burnouts well!!!
If you or anyone else has an LT1, and hasn't reset the throttle linkage, by all means do it, it really firmed up the pedal and made car MUCH more responsive!
All you need is a 1/8" drill bit or 1/8" shaft about 4-6in long and a quarter inch ratchet with a 3" or longer extension. Very easy. WELL worth it. Might have to put this under low buck HP increase! abdullahone 08-19-05, 10:56 AM Can you please explain what needs to be done in a littel more detail? And if possible at all can you forward any pics or anything of your own car's modification. I will have to consult the "book of knowledge", aka, the factory service manual. In a nutshell you release the adjuster to the throttle relaxer thingy. You remove the cover on it, look down on the side near the master cyl, insert the drill bit into the holes (you will see them, you have to move the assy some to line them up, but do not force down to the 3rd hole) and then you take the ratchet extension to turn it till it gets into position, then you lock down the cable adjuster. Non traction control cars are different.
I will post the actual proceedure, it is easy (looks hard by the book, but is really very easy) and it was very rewarding. If you drove my car, you know how it felt, took a lot of pressing the gas to get decent throttle response. If you just mashed it, it was fine. But never got WOT. I'll bet there is a lot of 94-96 FWB's that aren't getting WOT due to this. This car is as responsive as my 91 SDV was, if not more, despite the weight! | |
