View Full Version : 2000 Deville surging?

Bought my Caddy in February and had no problems. Then a couple of weeks back it started giving me issues. It started after I put gas in one day. It idled very rough and acted like it was going to die. I immediately put a bottle of heet in and no difference. So I put a can of seafoam in it along with fresh gas now it doesn't idle as bad. But it has started to rev up when warming up. It usually only does it once until the other day when it actually died while warming up. It still acts like its trying to cut out when i am at a stop. Yesterday it tried to die on me at a red light and I had to give it some gas. The only other thing I noticed was that usually my gas gauge will read low fuel at one bar but lately it has been reading low at 2 bars and my gas mileage has dropped.

Stop putting snake oil in the tank. The car is probably revolting.

Pull the DTC's. See the DTC Sticky if you need help. Post them AND their definitions.

And clean the TB. There is a tutorial in Tech Tips if you need it.

Maybe Crankshaft sensors? You need to check your diagnostic codes if you have not done so already..

When my 2002 Deville did this, it ended up being because of a small crack on the underside of the plenum boot. I could hear an audible 'hiss', but could find nothing. My buddy and I found the leak by accident really, and sure enough there was an inch long rip in one the 'accordian' grooves. Hope it helps....
