View Full Version : No Escalade for me (rant) slk230mb 08-12-05, 06:35 PM Just a little rant here...
Brought the truck in for service on Monday. Some of you may recall my previous posts about the front end making noise.

Well, it wasn't the ungreased stops and the problem persisted. Only happens during long highway drives so I drove it around Long Island on monday, putting 60 miles on it, and pulling into the dealership with the problem occuring. Service advisor hears the noise, says mechanic would take a look. Calls me back asks if the mechanic can take the truck home, I agree after he tells me that their insurance assumes risk when he takes it home. Wednesday afternoon he calls me back and says that he just called GMPP (to confim its covered under warranty) and it's my front differential. They tear is apart yesterday, it looked ok, not perfect. Today I call, he tells me he's waiting on a GMPP adjuster cause it looks like the transfer case is shot, and the transmission may be right behind it. So now if the adjuster gets down there Monday 8/15 there is a chance the truck will be ready by Friday 8/19. Here is the part that gets me aggrevated, although it's no one's fault-- I go back to school (SUNY Binghamton, for those inquiring minds) on Sunday 8/21 to start training on monday for my on campus job (ResCon, I help other students with computer problems, don't really know why I need training, it's what I do for my summer job). I have my dads Yukon XL if I need it, but I'd rather not take it with me. At least I only have to pay my $200 deductible to get everything fixed. As a side note, the small stuff that was wrong was all fixed- oil change, blower motor cuts out after long trips, and the second row seat would unlatch to let me fold it up. BTW, the truck has 72k, mostly trouble free miles on her. ;)
Sorry for the long rant and if I've bored you... CadillacGrillz 08-12-05, 07:26 PM is it dangerous driving with that problem i only hear when i heat a bump addison_ii 08-12-05, 07:32 PM Slk230, hope everything goes as you want it with the Lade. Good thing all you have to pay is $200 to get everything fixed. I completely understand the need to vent about one's ride. Ouch that really sucks! I had similar probs with my old Jeep Grand Cherokee. The worst part was even after replacing the front and rear gears and axles the whine never went away. I hope that isn't the case with your Lade.
I'm taking my Lade in Monday morning for a recall on the rear seatbelt, and having a rattle under the hood (which I believe to be the air compressor) looked at, and the front right fog light replaced (the lamp is full of condensation). I still have 3000 miles on the factory warranty but I'm covered up to 100k with an extended plan. Your extended warranty will pay for itself this trip my friend......be glad you bought it! CadillacGrillz 08-12-05, 08:21 PM rolex how much does the normal warranty cover u until how many miles slk230mb 08-12-05, 08:36 PM Ouch that really sucks! The funny part is that other than the banging noise turning after long highway trips, I never heard any noise to indicate something was wrong. No whine, no rattles, no banging/clanking. Just my luck I suppose... slk230mb 08-12-05, 08:39 PM rolex how much does the normal warranty cover u until how many miles
Factory warranty is 4 years/ 50,000 miles. I paid $1600 (IIRC) for a $200 deductible to extend it to 6 years/ 100,000 miles. Check out this link (http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/) for pricing. I'd also check it out with you dealership. Factory warranty is 4 years/ 50,000 miles. I paid $1600 (IIRC) for a $200 deductible to extend it to 6 years/ 100,000 miles. :yeah: I paid 2400 for full coverage until 100,000 miles with a 100 dollar deductable. Not cheap but it never hurts to be covered. Hmmmm. I recently started hearing a popping sound when I go around curves. Pretty scary! I'll point this out to the service tech when I pay my visit to the shop monday. slk230mb 08-13-05, 09:52 AM Hmmmm. I recently started hearing a popping sound when I go around curves. Pretty scary! How many miles? I had a popping noise around curves back in 2003. That was the lower ball joints. How many miles? I had a popping noise around curves back in 2003. That was the lower ball joints.
Around 47k on the dash. I still have just a little factory warranty left.
ETA: I remember my old GMC Z71 extended cab truck used to make a similar noise. I don't remember ever having it looked at though. I sold that truck with 85k on the dash....never had any breakdowns. slk230mb 08-13-05, 11:41 AM Around 47k on the dash. I still have just a little factory warranty left.
That's right when mine started acting up. Had my diff completely replaced...my 02 still whines like a baby....really pisses me off...also I get a vibration from the brake pedal like the ABS is malfunctioning when I step on the brakes while hitting corners at medium speeds...(on 22's by the way) also my engine has a mild chain clanking noise like a chain or belt needs to be lubed...I've taken it in three times for this...they cant do a thing... That's right when mine started acting up.
I took my Lade in for the recall service on the rear seatbelt. While I was there They replace the housing of my right foglight too. It was only 81 degrees and kind of rainy, so I wasn't able to reproduce the rattle under the hood (that I'm fairly certain in the air compressor) and the "ball joint noise." The air compressor noise only seems to happen on hot days and you'd know it would be 81 the day I go in for service.
At any rate I'm always pleased with Superior Cadillac's service dept. I hope if I get the opportunity to use the extended warranty they sold me I won't be disapointed. Steve, when did you change the gear oil, how many miles in between changes? slk230mb 08-17-05, 10:18 AM Steve, when did you change the gear oil, how many miles in between changes?
I changed the gear oil in May. At ~68k. Don't know if the first owner had it done. When they pulled the fluid there were no metal shavings/chunks. I heard from service yesterday and it appears to be the transfer case. I'll have to call them later today to see what the deal is. slk230mb 08-18-05, 09:06 PM Wooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooo there is like a 99% change I'm getting the truck back tomorrow. They got the transfer case replaced today and the mechanic was taking it home for a test drive and if all goes well I'll go pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Stoneage_Caddy 08-18-05, 09:19 PM so we started at the stops , progressed to the front diff , to the t case ....and they were thinking about the tranny ?
you need a real mechanic , that guy is throwing parts at it till the noise goes away ...then again your not paying for it ....LOL I wouldn't have left my digital camera in the truck Steve, so you must trust them. ;) Cbarrios28 08-18-05, 10:20 PM Exactly the same thing happened to me. The only difference is I have no warranty.
http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49075 Cbarrios28 08-19-05, 01:49 AM Reading more into the problem. It seems like I ruined my transfer case because of the mismatched tires. Going to replace the front tires and have the transfer case drained and re-oiled. I doubt that will help at this point. :(
What would it cost me to have the transfer case replaced by Cadillac? Reading more into the problem. It seems like I ruined my transfer case because of the mismatched tires. Going to replace the front tires and have the transfer case drained and re-oiled. I doubt that will help at this point. :(

Does your dealer know you had different sizr tires on front to back? Replace the tires and take it to the dealer. :) slk230mb 08-19-05, 09:45 AM so we started at the stops , progressed to the front diff , to the t case ....and they were thinking about the tranny ?

LOL, it's kinda my fault cause it only made the noise the last time I brought it in, it sounded like metal on metal banging...I guess that could be a lot of things on a truck. As long as it gets fixed...just costs me $200 for the warranty. I wouldn't mind a new tranny for that.
I wouldn't have left my digital camera in the truck Steve, so you must trust them. ;)
To a degree. ;) Cbarrios28 08-19-05, 10:25 AM Does your dealer know you had different sizr tires on front to back? Replace the tires and take it to the dealer. :)
No they dont, but the vehicle is out of warranty so it does not matter :(.
2002, AWD with 67,000 miles. No they dont, but the vehicle is out of warranty so it does not matter :(.

Well that sucks :( slk230mb 08-19-05, 03:52 PM Got the truck back today, ride home from the dealership ~21 miles and everything felt good. I'll be driving around tomorrow and then 200 miles on Sunday and then I'll know for sure that it's fixed. They also fixed a few things that were nagging me so I'm a happy camper.. Just for those inquiring minds it was $1400 to R&R the transfer case. Warranty covered $1200 of it. Xrayqueen 08-20-05, 12:06 PM I'm glad to hear things turned out good. Have a nice trip !!!
Peace Xrayqueen ;) slk230mb 08-21-05, 11:22 PM Well, I'm back at school. No noises what so ever. So smooth on the ride up. Right now I'm one happy camper. Cbarrios28 08-22-05, 12:34 AM So glad to hear. Now I know what to look forward to. Thats ok, a full fluid replacement and maybe a transfer case repair, but hey I get to keep my Caddy.
Since I dont need to spend much more money on a new one I am putting a full dvd system in it. :cool2: Well, I'm back at school. No noises what so ever. So smooth on the ride up. Right now I'm one happy camper.
Well that's good news. :) |
