Hi,
What is the best new bolt on carburetor for -73 Eldorado? My Eldo is consuming too much gasoline.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks, mis routed or leaky vac hoses, correctly set ignition timing, operation of the mechanical and vacuum timing advance? Usually the best carbonator for fuel economy is the one which the car was shipped with.

there is no leaks or other problems. Edelbrock offered PN # 1806 and adapter PN # 2696 for eldo. is it good for Caddy?

Those are good carbs, but the Quadrajet, when tuned correctly, is your best bet for your car (unless you set up EFI, etc.). It is built to consume little gas at idle and low RPMs, but when you punch it, you really feel those secondaries open up. When a properly tuned Quad is compared with any Edelbrock, etc of the same CFM it will outperform it in effieciency. This is because Rochester designed the Quadrajet with efficiency in mind.

Maybe you should consider a rebuild and a good tuning. I think you would be surprised.

However, if you are hell bent on getting the Edelbrock, then go for it. It will have no fitting problems with the adapter, as they did buy the Quadrajet name and design. They are very good carbs as well.

All in all, I'm agreeing with Ape. lol

Also, what do you mean by "way too much gas"? Your car is a true American "gas guzzler" Expect nothing more than for your car to go through a gallon just idling for a while.

I am from Finland. If i take caddy to service ,they start to speak astronomical costs of reparation, and hard to find skilful repairer . It would be so easy just install new one. Here is better do yourself as much as possible. thanks

Either keep looking for a reasonable mechanic to rebuild your existing carbonator or buy a new Rottenchester similar the one you have. The Edelbrock can be made to work but will require re-location of a number of vacuum lines and the fuel line. The electric transmission downshift switch will not fit. You really don't know how the ported vacuum calibration for the vacuum advance and EGR will behave. That is important for fuel economy which you have stated as your reason for replacement. The air cleaner and Thermac door should be retained for best economy also. That might be a problem with a different carbonator. Now if you simply want to try out the Edelbrock to see what will happen and are willing to make several changes then go for it.

If you can't rebuild it yourself or find someone to do it for you, and have realised that it wouldn't help to get the Edelbrock, then I would suggest buying a rebuilt or remanufactured carburator new from Summit or any other online auto parts store.

So it is not so easy just bolt on... that information is good, I can forget edelbrock. Is there companies in US who are repairing cadillacs carburetors?

I have a ham radio friend who has a '72 limo. He found a new Rottenchester carbonator for it for about $250.00. I'll see if I can find out where.
