hello I believe i am in the market of a new radiator. All of the radiators i find online do not have a heater return inlet. but i dont see how i could install the new radiator without that coolant outlet. the where would the smaller hose below the thermostat housing go? thats the hose that goes into the heater core and then flows back into the radiator through the heater hose. thanks and also how do i know if my vacuum advance is working (someone told me before but since forgoten) thanks a lot

Both Napa and JcWhitney will have Radiators with heater return outlets. I don't know why the other places just stock the ones without. To see if your Vac advance is working, disconnect it from the carb and plug the line. Then set your timing. Then, unplug the hose and connect it to manifold (not ported) vacuum source either on the carb or from the manifold. Check for suction first. Watch the timing mark go advanced when you do this. The manifold vacuum should be advancing the timing from where you set it. Even without a timing light, you should hear the difference when you hook up vacuum to the advance can. The car will increase in RPMs with the manifold advance as well, so you should be able to tell. If you have vacuum (measure with a gauge) and you get no change in RPM and Timing, its not working. Check for vacuum leaks first.

If the car was hard cranking, it might be stuck in the advance position. While you are at it, take of the dist and check to see the rotor moves a bit and then springs back. This will check to see if your mechanical advance is binding. If not, take off the rotor and put a little WD-40 on the weights and springs and give it some back and forth to loosen it up.

sorry everyone im still having trouble finding a radiator with the heater return line the 4 row 1970 radiator is the same size as the 68 3 row but the transmission cooler is smaller in the 70 would that make a difference? thanks

I doubt that it would matter much. If anything, the '70 was a heavier car, and would have put more of a heat load on the trans.

I'm surprised that NAPA doesn't have a radiator that has the right fittings, I have always had good experiences with them.

terrible one

Yeah are you sure they don't? Either way the 68 would probably do you alright.
