While my mom was driving to work today in her 04 ESV, she said that she noticed that the airbag light was blinking on and off consistently. She said she called onstar and had them do a remote diagnostic. Onstar told her that the airbag was having a problem and could possibly open or even explode randomly at any given time. They called a tow truck for her and took the car to the dealer, and now she's in a rental.

Now, my question is, has anyone experienced a similar problem? Is there a known recall concerning this? The car has not been in any accidents, so what exactly can cause the airbag to just suddenly act up? Does anyone have any experience on this?

I am going solely on what she told me (she did bring home the rental deville, so I know something did in fact happen.) But I still find this very wierd. Any insights? The dealership didnt have an ETA for her car... hmm??

Check the SRX forum, a guy over there had the airbags explode while he was sitting in the thing parked. Different vehicle and most likely unrelated, but scary no less.
