View Full Version : Cop car ran into my rear bumper 1knight1 08-04-05, 01:43 AM Man, I can't believe this. A freaken cop car ram my rear bumper. Lucky I always leave my trailer hitch on for this. Nothing was wrong with lade but it left a nice hole in the cop car front bumper.
We were at the stop lights in Barrie (Dunlop st. and Anne st., going Northeast bound). We were waiting at the light to turn green. I notice that the cop guy from behind was on his phone, talking a way and looking away. Well, the light turn advance green to make a left hand turn, but we were going straight and the light didnt turn green for us. The cop didnt plan any attention and thought it turn green and ram me from behind (the only time I took my eyes of the cop). The cop was so piss-off at himself and knew he was fu()K. He was like "SHIT, I hit your escalade" (I was so suprise he said escalade instead saying truck).
Man, if I ram the cop like that and talking on my phone. I would have gotten a nice ticket, maybe gain a few dermerit points, and had to pay to fix his bumper. Spittin Game 08-04-05, 01:52 AM RAMMED or RAN INTO, NOT RAMP!!! :banghead:
Id be fricken pissed if a cop ran into my Lade cause he was on the phone. :tisk: 1knight1 08-04-05, 01:56 AM RAMMED or RAN INTO, NOT RAMP!!! :banghead:

Thanks for the spell check Spittin Game 08-04-05, 01:57 AM Thanks for the spell check
anytime! :D CadillacGrillz 08-04-05, 02:03 AM man u better charge them something they put those f()cking laws that to not use the cellphone and look at them 1knight1 08-04-05, 02:06 AM Well, in Ontario there isn't a law, yet, using a cellphone while driving. But the only thing I can think of is careless driving, which can result of six demerit points, and fines of up to $1,000. I cant see a cop get that kind of a fine. So I dont know, except for sayin I got a little whiplash. RaGzEmCeE 08-04-05, 03:59 AM if that was me ... id step out of the car holding my neck ... the city has a lot of money :) haha nickc280 08-04-05, 05:02 AM if that was me ... id step out of the car holding my neck ... the city has a lot of money :) haha
no questions asked that is what I would have done or would still do:worship::worship::worship: 1knight1 08-04-05, 09:25 AM Well, my back does hurt a little bit, but I have no clue how to handle this with the insurance? Does anyone know? I would guess you would treat it just like John Doe ran into you, contact your insurance company (not sure of the Canada laws) CadillacGrillz 08-04-05, 09:58 AM Go to a doctor or something and pay him or something to give u a letter that something happened to ur back lol i used to do that in school for the excuses lol I'm glad to hear that you and your Lade weren't seriously hurt. Once again a driver chatting on the phone and not paying one bit of attention causes an accident. Maybe this will keep the cop from preaching down to other people about it too much.:D
Oh and if you're not hurt, don't drum up a lot of hype and try to sue somebody to get "free money." That kind of money is never free. turbojimmy 08-04-05, 08:58 PM Oh and if you're not hurt, don't drum up a lot of hype and try to sue somebody to get "free money." Yeah. You'll have the po-po on your ass every time you leave your driveway. Unless you have a legitimate complaint let it go. I think the cop learned his lesson.

Jim
learned his lesson my A$$$$, when I do thing wrong I don't get a warning from the pigs I get a ticket and if you rear end a person while on the phone you do get a ticket it is called careless driving, I would take them to the cleaners:want::want::want::want::want::want: istrokedmine 08-04-05, 10:56 PM take it for all it is worth. it is what insurance is for. yeah yeah i know lame claims drive up rates, BUT if you were to do that to someone else they more than likley will sue. i am not daying make up an injury. all i am saying, sue them because of negligence and careless driving. you will have a clean conscience because that is really the prolem with this accident. Playdrv4me 08-05-05, 02:50 AM LOL, thats insane. I would have been like real cute dude... he would have been lucky there wasnt damage if it were me. Synergetic 08-05-05, 04:00 AM I actually agree with some of you. In a case that you ran into a cop, you would get well more than just a ticket. But at the same time, it was an accident exactly like you see everyday on the road. It happens and thats why they're called "accidents." I'm sure he didn't purposely try to hit you. Don't take advantage of the situation and that a police officer rammed the rear end of your lac. Let this sly and they might just let you sly next time you get pulled over, if you know what I mean. :) nickc280 08-05-05, 05:08 AM I still say take them to the cleaners Synergetic 08-05-05, 07:00 AM I should get myself one of them hitches...lol :cop: ;) 1knight1 08-05-05, 08:35 AM I'm thinking I'm not going to take advantage of this situation. I'm not really that hurt, plus I believe that what what you do to someone else will always come back to you. It would be cool to get free money, but I rather earn it. Plus after the accident, I told the police officer to remember my face if he ever pulls me over for something.
turbojimmy - I live in a different town, with a different police force so I doubt they will be parking in front of my drive. If I did do something.
Synergetic - I rather not have my hitch on. It kinda brings down the look of the lade, but it saved the lade a few times from morons on the street that follow too close or when they park their car behind me and they cant judge their own car how close they are (I saw this first hand a few times). And people who walk around my ride lookin inside, they never see the hitch, so they always hit their shins on it, :D :D . CadillacGrillz 08-05-05, 11:31 AM hey hitting ur self with the hitch hurts Alot lol especially when ur drunk And people who walk around my ride lookin inside, they never see the hitch, so they always hit their shins on it, :D :D .
:banghead: :lildevil: :yup: firedawg911 08-05-05, 12:12 PM Are you sure there was no damage to your 'Lade when the cop rammed into your trailer hitch? From personal experience, sometimes at first glance there is no apparent damage. But upon closer inspection, there may be damage to the mounting bolts to the receiver or the frame or the receiver may be slightly bent even though it is not apparent to the naked eye. I would at least take your vehicle into a good body shop to have them closely examine it. Then if they detect damage you can pursue whatever avenue you need to recover your loss. I would not try to get the cop into trouble but I would recover the costs for repairs, if any. I hope you at least got his name and/or badge number. Good luck! nickc280 08-05-05, 12:45 PM Are you sure there was no damage to your 'Lade when the cop rammed into your trailer hitch? Of course... lol, just making a joke since there is a fat hole in the officers vehicle and not one dent or noticeable marks on your lade. That hitch hangs out like 12 inches. I don't doubt it bites the shins of people not paying attention. I'll tell you... when i'm on the road following behind a nice car I give a nice lengthy amount of room and space between them and I. :cynic:;) 1knight1 08-07-05, 10:33 AM Are you sure there was no damage to your 'Lade when the cop rammed into your trailer hitch? While I was driving back home that day, I check if my lade would pull to a side or not (hwy speed). Lucky it still goes in a straight line. Also, When I got home, I look back at the rear again and the only thing I saw that was lose, was the hitch silver ball, which I did tight it up again. I doubt you will ever see him again anyway. Can a cop not get a ticket while on duty? An ex gf of mine hit a parked cop car. She left a note with her info but they never got back to her about it. dude this reminds me of a ticket I once got for speeding. A cop was right on my @ss. I didn't know it was a cop so I drove faster. Well the car which I thought was a truck just got closer and so I drove faster. WHAAA!!! lights and all the dramatics go off. I get a ticket. He was so pissed at me. He tried to tell me some guy was beating his wife and he had to pull me over instead. I smell bs. Why da hell would he have even bothered with me then? Wasn't it obvious I was trying to get away from his bright headlights. avcoolin 11-25-06, 12:23 AM Wasn't it obvious I was trying to get away from his bright headlights.
Now that was funny! EXT_Vegas 11-25-06, 02:02 AM Be careful. If your not hurt, don't make a false claim. You'll probably end up in jail. Don't be stupid. If your hurt, then by all means, see a doctor, but don't get yourself in hot water. It's not worth it. Think before you speak. 08/04/2005 @ 2.43 am

LMAO!!!!!!! How can you give someone advise on claiming an accident that happened over a year ago??
 The RCMP and other feds. do not carry insurance. They are state owned and exempt. Getting killed by one of the Queen's cars is like winning the Lotto! I do not know about the OPP. Might be the same deal. Anyway if the feds get into a fender bender the crown simply pays it out. You best report it and see DR. 6/49....lol. Shame about your ride. I'd be pissed too. Murphyg 12-18-06, 08:55 PM Yep, RCMP would be Federal. Nottin to do with state though. Closest thing we have to States would Provinces
OPP is provincial in Ontario. QPP in Quebec. Born and raised in BC but for some reason dont think there is a provincial detachment there. Know for sure there is no provincial detach in Alberta. Is RCMP for that province. Am thinkin provincial is a detachment of the federal RCMPs'.
Then you have your regional detachments. General cops on the road. Peel, Halton, Durham, etc.
Would have gone about it the same as any accident. Followed the proper procedure.
Exchange insurance etc.....
If I felt I was injured then would have made a call to the police as what is the proper procedure.
Seeing as it was an officer that was involved in the accident, then he can no longer be qualified as a representative of the law at the scene.
I would have been very very carefull as to making sure the proper procedures where followed. Especially if there may have been an injury involved.
If you felt you may have been injured, and that was made clear at the scene, then paramedics should have been dispatched.
Either way, you should have been asked if you were injured and may need medical assistance.
In the case of an officer on duty, wether or not responding to a call, all of the above should have occured no matter what your responses.
Am quite surprised paramedics were not called for precationary measures.
Hope you didnt sign off on anything saying that you were not hurt.
With adrenaline running during such situations, it is always possible not to realize or feel potential injuries.
Never go by the way side and say Im Ok Dont Worry About It.
Always follow the proper procedure during any, no matter how small it may seem, accident.
Always make sure to cover your ass no matter the situation or how sincere things may seem to be.
Please play safe kids LOL First Class advice from Murph. 20 years in BC myself. Mounties in them there parts for sure | |
