Just looking for some opinions on what would be better for my 2001 Denali, a K&N intake or a first generation Volant intake.

Thanks,

As long as your ok with increasing your cabin noise either intake would be okay. The Volant is slightly more expensive but retains a more factory appearance. Both intakes will give you a slight increase in hp, but you're not likely to notice it unless you optimize the computer with a programmer. Both.....I repeat BOTH intakes will make your engine much louder. You can do a search and find at least 3 threads on this very topic. Good luck and post pics.

These intakes will never pay for themselves because of their inflated cost. Any gain in mpg is usually negated because most people are always gouging the throttle to hear the new high performance engine sound. There seems to be an idea that the Volant may be slightly quieter than the K&N, but at WOT they'll both make your truck sound like a jet engine.

Rolex, thanks for the reply. I don't mind the extra noise, I have 2 15" subwoofers in the back of my truck, I had just heard that people were losing power with the first gen Volants. I have had K&N on my GTP and I was pleased, and I had an AIRAID on my Escalade and I wasn't too impressed. I was just wondering about the Volant and the Gen II FIPK. I am leaning towards the FIPK because I have had K&N before and I can get one for about $150.

Thanks,

Derrick

Here's an old thread I started that has pics of a K&N Gen II installed in my 03 Lade. The only reason I removed the K&N was the increase in noise. As long as noise won't be a problem for you the K&N should serve you fine.

I had 6 K&N FIPK's on my last 6 Suburbans, I have a Volant on my Escalade, I will get another Volant, I had enough K&N's, they were too loud for me.
