If I was to convert my 70 472 to a 500 what do I need? I think I just need the crankshaft and pistons. Do I need the rods too. Are the 472 connecting rods the same as the 500?

Thanks,
Clayton

Rods are same.
You'll need a 500 crank and pistons designed for the 500 crank's longer stroke (less compression height than the 472 pistons).

Just wondering why you want to change to a 500 ?

Instead of spending money to convert, why not spend money to soup up the 472?

Looking at some of the pie in the sky gofast advice seen on the WWW, this might prove more cost effective then a whole lot of schemes.
No substitute for C.I.
Someone out there has your parts cheap. You just need to find out who. I remember hearing that you have to notch the bottom of the 472 cylinder sleeves to clear the crankshaft counterweights of the 500 crank. Second hand knowledge FWIW.

When I look at it that way, I see what you are talking about, Ape.
