View Full Version : New Car Time Though we think the '93 Deville will last many more miles we do not wish to be dishing out money left and right to pay for all sorts of things going wrong with it.
So tonight we went looking at various cars. Our first stop was the GM dealer where we found the Chevy Colorado. Yet, most of them would cost us about 27,000. When compared to the Dodge Dakota we later looked at they were expensive. We saw Dakotas with Crew cabs for 22,000. We also saw a Chevy Cobalt for a great price. It had leather and the works for 16,000 which is in our range. But, it was kinda small. We also looked at Subarus and we liked a Outback we saw with leather and dual sunroofs. The only problem is that there is a negative image (to me anyways) with Subaru in this town. I think the Mazda 3 is kinda cool and my dad is in mind for another Deville. We need a good, affordable, and cool car (because I will be driving it). Our price range is about 20,000 and down. Any ideas? I find it hard to think of driving something other than a Cadillac. Maybe a Honda. Are the CTS's reliable? TomDeville 07-15-05, 02:48 AM In your price range get a 2000+
DeVille with the new body style.
You could get a clean 2000 or newer
loaded (off lease) with the hood ornament
and moonroof. You could run regular
87 gas, and do your own mods (upgrade
air intake, big shiny rims, low profile tires,
tints, wicked grille etc.); and, come in
under budget-- PIMPIN' WHILE LISTENING TO DAD,
and maintaining Cadillac prestige and
honor.
IT'S WIN WIN!
WHEN IN DOUBT GO CADDY!
TomDeville :coolgleam Subarus are pretty tough vehicles. they have a good rep here, esp. the all wheel drive for our ever changing climate.
How about a Legacy? Impala? Malibu? Lacrosse? (Allure) What would your family find more useful, a car or a truck?
Sure, why not a newer Deville. :) Good Advice. I am still interested in a CTS. Also my mom and me will be sharing the car.

My dad says the Impala is another boring mid size sedan, he thinks the Malibu is fugly, and the Lacrosse does not excite him. The legacy is the best be or the Impreza as far as Subaru goes. I guess if we moved I could tolerate a Subaru. My dad was interested in a Colorado but they are spendy.:rant2: Maybe a newer Deville is the best bet...didnt they get bad crash tests? Not that those matter to much. We want a black one if we get one and NO repairs. There is probably one in Spokane:hmm: My dad says the Impala is another boring mid size sedan, he thinks the Malibu is fugly, and the Lacrosse does not excite him. I think the Deville did pretty good on the crash tests. At least I THOUGHT they did a couple years ago for my Dad's '03 DTS. :hmm: heavymetals 07-15-05, 03:13 AM Go test drive a CTS-V:eek: I remember the 01 getting 1 star for driver side adn 3 for passenger. All the other years were like 3/4 stars and in 04 it went to 4/4 and sales increased shortly after. I remember the 01 getting 1 star for driver side adn 3 for passenger. I remember the late '90's Malibu getting only 2 stars for side impact, I think. Before that, the Olds Cutlass got only one star for side impact! GM seems to have got it right lately concerning safety. Even the Civic coupe gets double 5 stars if I recall....
I'm sure your family would LOVE a new Deville and I hope you guys aren't "soured" from the experiences with the STS. There are quite a few lease buybacks at our dealership and they are going for 20k less than new and they are all 2004 models. What do they have at your Cadillac dealership for used Devilles? ""soured" from the experiences with the STS" Why would we be soured? We love that car to the frame/bone. It is the best car we have ever owned, my dad is wild about it. It is the '93 Deville with 127,000 miles that we are getting rid of. The only problem we ever had with the Seville was the power steering and Cadillac offered to pay half. To bad we did not hear from them till we had it fix by a non GM person. ""soured" from the experiences with the STS" Why would we be soured? We love that car to the frame/bone. Oh, I thought it was the Seville that caused problems in the past...
what about that NHTSA website? I remember the late '90's Malibu getting only 2 stars for side impact, I think. Before that, the Olds Cutlass got only one star for side impact! GM seems to have got it right lately concerning safety. Even the Civic coupe gets double 5 stars if I recall....
What do they have at your Cadillac dealership for used Devilles? The problem is that we don't have a Cadillac dealership and the nearest one is kind of sparce. We could find something good in Spokane and I will have to check autotrader. We saw a white 01 at the Ford dealer and my mom thought it was a Ford. She said "wow I really really like that new ford." Hahahaha. A Deville would go over with her and me:worship: BLACK on BlACK though!:halo: Go test drive a CTS-V:eek:
That's too much car for Majax. He would probably wrap it around a tree or something. :lildevil: :hide: Oh, I thought it was the Seville that caused problems in the past...
what about that NHTSA website?
It is coming my internet is giving me a hard time. Go test drive a CTS-V:eek:
I could go for that
My brother would be the one to wrap it around a tree Ralph:suspect: :)
What about the normal CTS we almost bought a brand new one before we got the Seville. We saw a white 01 at the Ford dealer and my mom thought it was a Ford. She said "wow I really really like that new ford." Hahahaha.
LOL, my parents think that the DTS looks like other cars and not as unique as the 1991 Fleetwood. They LIKE the fact it "blends in" with everybody else!!!
I think the new Devilles are still distinctive enough, but I guess w/o the slit taillights and fenderskirts they look like a larger Altima or something. :canttalk: www.safecar.gov/Index2.cfm try that Mozilla will not let me post a link and when I get to the page where it shows the ratings for the Deville the URL does not change. That URL should get you to the page where you enter the info (passenger car 2003 Deville...) LOL, my parents think that the DTS looks like other cars and not as unique as the 1991 Fleetwood. I know you hate black but distinction is why I want a black one. It will have this big shinny :D black sedan cruzin down the street and that will stand out:thumbsup:
I buy a Cadi not to blend in:yup: I still cannot believe you thought we were dropping the Seville and possibly for a Subaru! :histeric: I know you hate black
You knew exactly what I was thinking, biting my nails when you said "black on black!" :helpless: :rant2: :annoyed:
Geez, I can't keep up with you tonite!! I still cannot believe you thought we were dropping the Seville and possibly for a Subaru! :histeric:
I don't even remember half of the cars you guys have! :shhh: :p
What color will the new Subaru be?? Black? :rolleyes2
:p :)
Still a bad geteway on that... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4562426277&category=6146&rd=1 I want this Deville with 40,000 miles and $16,000. I could shine that one there up nice!!!
the Subaru my mom liked has Dual Sunroofs and is Burgandy (you would like that). Everyone here owns one though...
We have a 99 Seville, a 93 Deville, and a Honda Accord. 123 The '04 did ok....
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ncap/cars/3018.html
I seem to recall the SAME rating for the '03.
What in the world did they do to the NHTSA website!? I can't find anything I want there now! :helpless: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4562426277&category=6146&rd=1 I want this Deville with 40,000 miles and $16,000.
I see 91,000 miles on it.
Ugg, that color. :sneaky:
Black lung syndrome...... :vomit:
:shhh: instead of "people saving people" they are people confusing people. When you got to the main page just use the drop bar about 1/4 the way down. Then click on Crash tests and roll overs.
Now are these Devilles reliable (JD power) and I assume the base model does not have the adaptive suspension, which I don't want for our "affordable" car. We really like our '93 and don't let me make you think it has been that bad to us. Now are these Devilles reliable (JD power)
I believe they are what helped take Cadillac to the number 2 spot in JD Power. (now bumped to 4th thanks to Jaguar getting better than ever) I think by '02/'03 they got the bugs out, and there have been some people with 2000 models with some problems. I wonder how Sals' is treating him? Doesn't he have a 2000 DTS..... I see 91,000 miles on it.

I think of the Maufia/FBI and me driving it in a black suit:D Cant touch this:tisk: Good point I should go for the '01. What I really want is the new DTS!
My aunt wants one of those Jags XJ8. I gave her some info and a recomendation. Good point I should go for the '01. What I really want is the new DTS!

I love XJ8's!!! yeah they are awesome. I guess we could get a used one for around 20,000 right? It would have a lot of problems like a 7 series. Well I will tell my dad we should look for a Deville tommarow. I need to do emails now. yeah they are awesome. I guess we could get a used one for around 20,000 right? I guess Ian can answer that for you. ;) Yeah I thought of him, lol. I would love a 7 but it would kill us on any repair. RBraczyk 07-15-05, 07:01 AM Colorado or supercharged cobalt. davesdeville 07-15-05, 08:09 AM Blah. Screw getting a boring ass new proletariat-mobile when you can pick up a nice clean used Cadillac for the same price.
That black leather interior is a real killer on sunny days though. Well at least here it is when it's 100* or more out mine literally burns my ass.

Looks like they were careful when loading and unloading the bodies. Playdrv4me 07-15-05, 08:15 AM Modern XJ's are not problematic cars. If you get any XJ after about 98 with decent mileage and proper care it will last you along time and have minimal problems.
I would echo the sentiment you should be looking at a 2000-01 Deville or Seville. Thats about as good as it gets for less than 20k unless you get a 1989-1991 420SEL Mercedes, but that car will need proper care. Blah. Screw getting a boring ass new proletariat-mobile when you can pick up a nice clean used Cadillac for the same price.

When we bought our '93 the Salesman said something simlar. Just he said my parents could fit the kids and grandma in that trunk. It does not get to hot here for black leather to bother us. The Seville has navy blue leather and no problems. if your price range is 20k then i would definetely go with a Deville. you could probably get a 2k-2k2 maybe for around 20 grand. a 2k-2k1 definetely. i almost got a 2000 DHS for 20k. or you could go with a 99 or something. if you are new car hunting then a Cobalt or a Mustang (ordered from the factory). i doubt you'll find a CTS for 20k. well its possible but i havent seen them that low yet. i got mine for 24,600 and i think they wanted 28,995 or 29,995 for it (dont remember now). personally i would go with a 2001 Deville or a 2000 DHS. Okay, cool. I just want a plain Deville with fewer things to go wrong. Maybe I've been watching too many Sopranos re-runs, but I'm really liking the '94-'99 DeVille body style. Vinyl top, lotsa extra chrome. Burgundy with a tan vinyl top like Big Pu$$y had before he went into the "witness protection" program. STS 310 07-16-05, 12:22 AM Big Pu$$y.
Yea. airbalancer 07-16-05, 09:53 AM why does a Subaru have a bad name in your area? |
