OnStar Information :canttalk: Specialist The upgrade option will be a new car. The Tony Show 07-12-05, 10:36 PM No, it'll be upgradeable. If you just want to upgrade it, then it'll cost, but if you sign up for a multi-year contract, they'll pay for it. Just like a cell phone. Sign a new contract, get a spiffy new top-of-the-line phone for free. antddaddy 07-12-05, 10:39 PM I let my onstar lasp...for those who still have it do you really use it and is worth it? malcolm 07-13-05, 08:44 AM I use it very rarely but my OCD :cookoo: doesn't allow me to have equipment in the car that is not working. In my last vehicle 02 Seville I used it maybe a half dozen times for directions and I was happy to have it. hybridchaos 07-19-05, 01:48 AM i have had my sts for about two weeks and on the way to palm springs a truck hauling scrap metal hit a bump and a rod iron ploe pierced my radiator and i was about an hour away from my house and onstar had called the police and had a tow truck come and pic us up in about a half an hour..... so i have all good things to say about onstar LetsDance 07-20-05, 12:19 AM I spoke to my service dept at my dealer about this, he said that he "THINKS" Cadillac will pay for the upgrade since when you bought the car you paid for the Onstar to work.....and it should work. I have to have a working Onstar in my car, my husband has a heart condition and its a needed thing. Last week while on the Garden State Parkway a gas tank in a SUV in front of us bust out in flames as he was driving, we used the Onstar to call the state troopers, they came in a flash ( Excuse the pun ) and rescued the people and put the fire out ( Which by that time engulfed the whole back of the SUV ) I like my my Onstar...when it works, but that is a whole different story. I agree with Jesda: this may mean a new car! An '06. What is the issue with Onstar any way. I ve seen the postings but don't understand what was promised and not delivered? don_mccarter 07-27-05, 05:39 PM My issue with OnStar is that I have to push the button several times
to connect to personal calling. My previous car was a 2002 model and
came with a dual mode system, and I only lost the signal twice in three
years.
If I have problems connecting I suspect that it can not call for help
if there is no signal when the an airbag deplores.
OnStar told me to contact my dealer for an upgrade last Jan. There
was no upgrade available. GM customer service told me that I would
be upgraded this past April, no upgrade was available. So now the
dealer tells me I will be upgraded in Sept. I have been promised upgrades
twice that did not happen so I and not really expecting one in Sept. malcolm 07-28-05, 02:05 PM I am an occaisional OnStar user and do like having it available just in case but recently used it to find a restaurant with very disappointing results. The operator barely spoke English and could not understand what I was asking for. I have since done a Google search and found the info I asked OnStar for immediately. Wonder why they couldn't find it? I am wondering if they have outsourced and if this is an indication of their demise. 05STSWOW 07-29-05, 05:58 PM Onstar is totally irrelevant when you have the NAV system. Had a '97 STS with no Onstar... didn't need it. Had an '02 STS with Onstar. Used it 3-4 times for directions, did not renew. Now I have an '05 STS with Onstar (natch) and NAV. Have not used it once in 9 months and 15k miles.
Maybe Onstar needs to re-invent itself and start pro-actively 'pushing' information such as traffic and weather. Oh wait! XM Radio beat them to the punch, especially when the XM system on the latest CTS (like the one on the Acura RL) spreads across the product line. I completely agree. OnStar was absolutely amazing a decade ago when it became available on Oldsmobiles. These days, its fighting a battle with cell phones, navigation, and satellite radio. I'd perhaps pay $8/mo for it, but not $16. whoffman 08-07-05, 03:26 PM You guys must be rich! I have a 2005 STS and NEVER have even activated the OnStar. I have a cell that I use and it works fine. One thousand minutes per month that I never use up and its only $39.95. When I saw that I could get 100 minutes for $300.00 from OnStar, I about choked! I don't want to get used to it so I won't activate it. Its already obsolete (analog) and I hate that I couldn't get the STS without it! malcolm 08-07-05, 05:32 PM You get 1 year free with 30 minutes of persoanl calling. Minutes are not cheap but it's handy. don_mccarter 08-07-05, 06:53 PM You guys must be rich! I have a 2005 STS and NEVER have even activated the OnStar. I have a cell that I use and it works fine. 100 minutes of OnStar personal calling is $39.95. Actually, Onstar has a "sale" on right now. 100 minutes is $19.95. There may be some catch to it, such as the first time you're loading minutes, etc.; but that's what I just paid to load up. They told me that is a 1st time deal. I did it also. But now here's the real catch for me: the phone doesn't work! Every attempt to use the phone results in an immediate response from the system: "There is no phone connected." I've tried for three consecutive days working with Onstar to resolve the problem without success, and now it's been bumped to "Level One" for assistance. Thinking that going to "Level One" meant someone with more authority would take care of the problem quickly, however, was a gross misperception, as I was told that someone would contact me within three to five business days to try to fix the problem, and I would ultimately receive a service credit for the loss of service.
Has anyone else experienced the "no phone connected" message, and if so, what was the resolution to the problem? BarryNS 08-09-05, 12:00 PM Has anyone else experienced the "no phone connected" message, and if so, what was the resolution to the problem?
In my previous Cadillac while I was working with the electronic technician to troubleshoot some other electronic problems I had, I noticed that the On-Star connection had to be turned on in the car computer with that thingamajig they hook up to the car. There seems to be a lot of options that can be turned on or off by the technician. Cajonkev 08-09-05, 02:05 PM But now here's the real catch for me: the phone doesn't work! Forget OnStar and get over to your servicing dealer. One demo and they should get going on it.
I have received the "There is no phone connected" message on the screen when the Bluetooth link doesn't establish but have never had a problem with the OnStar phone.
Good Luck malcolm 08-11-05, 05:58 PM Don't get me wrong, I love my STS and like having Onstar  but having said that the Onstar magazine arrived today. Nice to know I now have a backup in the house if I run out or toilet paper :stirpot: . Anyway they mentioned the analog problem on the last page directing you to http://www.onstar.com/digital-transition. Well it's the same old same old :banghead: . Funny too when you read it there are links to click for more information that take you right back to the very same page you are on :cookoo: . Can't wait till September 1 to see what they come up with :bigroll: . |
