Hey all,

I have a problem ever since I put a new exhaust on my 79 ElDorado. The engine reves too high and too long before the transmission finally engages into second gear. I engages fine while I put it in drive or reverse but it seems only that 1st to 2nd gear change has an issue. I feel no problems from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Is this a sign I need an overhaul or rebuild or can it be something else?

It is possible that teh TV cable is out of adjustment (it takes place of the downshift cable/vacuum modulator).

It is easily adjusted. Search this forum and also the 4.X forum for "TV cable" as I'm pretty sure someone posted the procedure on how to adjusted. I think it was Bbob.
