I cannot figure out how to remove the headrests on my 98 Sts. :rant2: I think I may have to remove the plastic surround on the side of the headrest to remove. Does anyone have a guide that tells how to remove?! I do not want to break any clips so any info is good info! Gotta install my Tv's!!! :annoyed:
Thanks,
E :want:

I recently replaced the front seat covers on my 97. I broke the clips that hold the headrest in place on one seat by trying to jerk it out.
If your 98 seat are anything like mine, you will have to remove the upper seat back cover to access the clips that prevent the headreast from popping out. Unzip seat cover and slide cover up towards head rest. There might be a backing board that is held in with four plastic trim clips to the frame. Remove those trim clips and you will have access to head rest retainer clips. If I remember correctly, use a paper clip to unlatch the lock on the retainer clips. There is a tiny hole where you insert the paper clip.

This is how they did it in 1995. Perhaps someone with a 1998 FSM might chime in?

If your '98 seats are like my '02, and I think they are, the above tips will not help. I am sure that the side plastic cover on the seat must be removed, and there are fasteners behind the cover.

You need a special tool to take off the headrests. The tool's part number is: J 39509
This is through the GM repair manual.

Anyone know where I can get the tool from? Thanks E
I sure don't estyle. I had my seats reupholstered a couple of years ago and the guy did it (out of business now) so perhaps there is a part you can rent from the auto parts store.
