Thought this was pretty cool...

On last tank of gas I ran about 100 miles in city and 300 on highway. Driving was over the course of two days with no WOT cycles. Normal to slightly heavy traffic, A/C on 75% of the time, windows up, cruise set for 72 on highway (when not in construction), front psi @ 40 lbs and rear @ 38 lbs. Car has 112K. Total trip returned 27.7 mpg per computer and hand calculations. And I read Lexus was coming out with hybrids...:helpless:

Now that I know it still gets good mpg, back to more WOT's :sneaky:

have you done any recent maintenance?

Support an argument, are you running premium?

:worship: 99STS 145k 26-27 mpg with same highway/city ratio. Run 92 octane every third, sometimes second, tank. Otherwise 89 Ethanol blend.

I just got through taking leave and drove from Abilene Texas to Cabool Mo which is about a 660 mile trip and I have a 98 SLS with 110000 and was running premium grade fuel and I got 28.5. And I was running mostly between 75-80 and that was with the Ac on the whole trip.

So what I'm driving at, excuse the pun, is that perhaps premium does yield better gas mileage. Maybe not enough to offset the cost though.

I can never hit those numbers, best I've seen is 23-24 with AC on in summer running 93 on long haul trips, but then again I do tend to WOT alot (I love the sound/feel), and on the highway 80 just feels slow with my 98 ETC, it's just sooooooo smooth and there's so much power left, it screams to go faster!

Most of my around town/highway work commute lands me with around 21 MPG which isn't bad considering how I drive...

The only time I hit those numbers, is when I am on cruise control, going around 65-70 MPH. Of course I mean average, as they go down when going uphill and viceversa.

The numbers get really good on boulevards with cruise control on around 45 MPH. I try to choose the roads with less stop and go.

Ocassionally I will see a ricer stepping on it and I am tempted to keep up and show them a lesson, but that's just my playful side.

I don't think I've ever gone a tank without WOTs.

Unfortunately there is a lot of idleing and short trips in my routine, so my avg MPG goes down dramatically (stop and go KILLS it). I do about 90% city, with some WOTs and get ~15MPG per tank. :(

Take out the idling and the parking lots, and the stop and go, and I get your numbers.

On long trips I get about 24MPG average, going 75+. If I stuck to the speed limits then I'd get 26 or 27. On one trip I got 29 once--I think that was before I learned to WOT. It's very invigorating to do WOTs while passing.... ETC= king of the road.

I ran regular for one tankfull, and started to get the "Fuel Level Low" message. I put some fuel cleaner in and put Premium in hopes that it will go away, and sure enough it went away. I think either the sensor is going out OR, the gas was dirtier.

I did not notice a performance change, other than the Fuel Level Low issue, when I went to Regular (may have been a coincidence).

Recent maintenance in the last week included: Oil change/filter, fresh transmission fluid, new air filter. I also did 6 cycles of WOT on two seperate occasions the previous week, right after the oil change. This tank was run on 89 octane, though I put 91 or 93 in every third tankful. Tires are new and you can see I believe in slightly over inflating them. I usually get about 70K out of my tires as a result.

That's pretty good mileage. I drove 1450 miles (in one day, which is a bad plan) and averaged 24mpg, and overall averaged 71mph which included several stops for gas, food, taking a leak, etc, so I was probably doing 80-85 on the road.

I've never done WOT's with my 99 STS. What advantages are there to doing them every so often? Or are there any at all? Maybe it's just something fun? :yup:

Wow. I always thought doing it on older engines would tend to make them wear faster or make something blow. Guess I'll try it soon and see if I'm still around to talk about it lol.

wow, about the same thing for my CO trip. Average spped was 74.4, was going 85-90 the whole way, except construction and big cites (Omaha), went about 1400 miles and averaged 24.4 MPG. I thought it was pretty good. There were ALOT of WOT on I-80 to get around all those damn trucks...

Always run premium, some BMW was trying so show off but im glad i put the good stuff in cause i kept right on her tail when she floored it. Some lady about 50 in her BMW didnt want to get out of the way then she floors it. Whatever...

Oh, then i also saw a range rover with the safari outfit, big mudders and grill gaurds, snorkel, all that going 82 down the interstate. Also some lady. Now that was funny!!!!

40 PSI for front and 38 PSI for rear are a lot of pressure!
Not wonder you have good mpg!
I keep 30/30 PSI and have around 24-25 mpg on a highway, like most of us.
I noticedbetter milage with a cruise control on, also .

That's great mileage guys! If you are wondering which grade fuel is most economical to run I suggest rather than just calculating your mpg, calculate the fuel cost per mile also. That will give you a more accurate picture of which grade fuel is cheapest for you to run. You might be surprised and find that the higher grade fuel is the same or cheaper to burn than the lower grades. You need to run through a couple of consistant tank fulls before you record your data.

I get 23-25 in the city and atleast 33-35 on the highway! My Caddy has always been maintained and service at the Cadillac garage where I bought it. Including oil changes. If the service advisor recommends a service I let them do it. I do no repairs my self.

Okay I'll ask for everyone. Why 52 and not 50 or 55? Is there some sort of logic to this?

Each Fall I take a 10K miles trip around the country to see kids, grandkids, brothers, etc. I sorta make a big circle from San Jose to Victoria to Bozeman to Minneapolis to Chicago to Maine to Pennsylvania to St.Louis to Denver to Flagstaff to Vegas to Santa Barbara and back to SJ ! I'm gone about a month.

I used CC for all the Interstates and when I got home the DIC "Average Mileage" was 33.5 mpg.

I think I'll keep the car ! (Hate to see it wear out !)

OHhhhhhhh.. these 30+ numbers are 4.9L in the "little" eldos, THAT i do believe, the 4.9L does have better milage than N*
