Hey All,

I own a 96 STS with 115k on the clock. Every so often, the check engine light will come on, and the heads-up will indicate, "Service - Emmisions System." I used to think it was the gas cap, because every time I would shut the car off, tighten the gas cap, then restart the car; the light would still be on, but the display would ready "Monitored Systems OK." However, it appears to temporarily go away any time the car is turned off, then back on. Another thought was the Mass Airflow Sensor on the airbox, since the problem started when the dealership didn't reconnect the sensor after an oil change. They found the problem and re-connected it when I brought it back in... Now it does it at random.

When I'm mostly driving around town, It will happen every few days. The check engine light will stay on for a few hours after the display goes back to normal. When on longer road trips(100 or more miles), it will do it multiple times throughout the trip.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks

I think you will need to post any codes before any of us will be able to offer good advice. Search the forum on reading codes - it is pretty easy.
