I was asking the same question for my 68. I was told that 20's might fit under the skirts but a couple of weeks ago I was at the DUB's car show in Miami and they had a 63 with 22s on it. I tried to check it out as best I could and it looked pretty stock under it. You find out different let us know because I plain on trying a set of 22 spokes....

I think the widest rim you can fit without body mods is going to be 8". I looked around on my '70 SDV, and the front rim is really close to the a-arm on the inside - no room there, but probably room on the outside. In the rear, everything is really close to the skirt on the outside, but there's some room to the inside.
Larger rims would help on the front if you're looking at the really big stuff
(not my style) because you can fit the rim around the suspension. You could probably get 1" wider rims than stock, and 1" more backspacing. That way you could keep the same rims/tires front/rear so you can still rotate them, and have a full-size spare.
