So I saw these on EBay (V disks and calipers) and it got me to thinking again, after close observation. The CTS rear caliper (I assume it's the rear) looks to be exactly like the front, with the exception of about 1" shorter mounting ears. With the CTS and CTS-V knuckle being identical, the V calipers should bolt right on the CTS knuckles.

Of course putting V calipers on the knuckle with stock CTS disks would result in the caliper being about 1" further out (14" rotor has 7" radius, and our 11.9" rotors have ~6" radius) . . . you see where I'm going? If one bolted the rear V caliper on the front CTS knuckle the radius should be about right for our stock rotor. I don't know about rotor/caliper offset and width, though. Now we need a guinea pig who has access to a V rear caliper (there is no PN in the Parts list for the rears), to do a test fit. How cool would it be to have slotted stock rotors with V calipers on the front, with 5 lug wheels?!?!

I know there will be naysayers, but I refuse to discount it until someone actually tries to bolt one on and verify it. The fronts only run about $100 at GMPD, so I assume the rears are similar in price (if we can get a PN). All of this is null and void if it's the front caliper with the shorter ears, and putting the rear on the front results in 1" further OUT.

It would also be cool (and very informative) if HaveBlue would test fit the V front and rears to his new 14" Baer rotors.

Odysseus, I understand your Idea. I have a set of V calipers that I am planning on installing on my cts. I have removed a front and rear cts caliper and can assure you that the V calipers do bolt on to the cts knuckles. Obviously they sit one inch further out, the other problem is the V rotor must have a slightly different offset. I cant remember wich way, in or out. When I get some time I will try your idea of seeing if the rear caliper will fit on the front. I cant wait to get 18" wheels to get these brakes installed! I will keep you posted!

Hmmm..can't you hear the naysayers now. V symbols brakes on a base CTS..another wannabe. Wouldn't bother me. What would bother me is to find out this works and I already dumped money into my present brakes & rotors.

Something more to put on your plate Ody?

The thing is, is that it really will screw with the brake bias if you attempted that. Theres alot more to just slapping a set of bigger brakes on a car. Other then maybe the 'bling' factor.

What Robert & PJ did they justed added a better set of rotors and a really good set of brake pads. Just doing that will do what is needed. What people for get is that those huge rotors take away HP due to rotational mass. In this case bigger is not always better!

The beauty of this idea (if it works) is that you'll have better four-piston Brembo front brake calipers on the stock CTS rotors. The disk offset issue is a whole different ballgame, that may throw a wrench in the mix. I suspect that the disk is moved inboard to help the calipers clear the wheels. Milling the caliper mounting ears may be an option, but I alway shudder at the thought of removing metal when it comes to high stress parts.

As for the V emblem on the calipers, one can easily repaint them to cover it. Does Brembo make VHT decals to put on freshly painted calipers?

Okiwont - keep us posted. There's a set of V brakes on EBay that close in a few days. If this idea works, and we can find the PN for the rears, the entire cost, with pads, should be around $300 from GMPD. Not bad for four-piston calipers.

I'll let you know soon. I have the VHT decals. The rear caliper on the base CTS are to small for the decal. Several companies make the Brembo decals.

Depending upon cost issues of purchase and the 'hassle factor' of reworking them to fit the car you may find it's worth considering the current discounted price option for the month of July on a 13.1" six pot front kit to begin with. All new parts and fit with ease makes for more time to enjoy than sweat.
