I know this has been discussed before but, without directing me to other threads, can anyone tell me what is involved in getting the headlamp washers to function with the xenon headlamps. I am thinking about doing the upgrade. is it as simple as running a hose? thanks

No, You need to install a separate pump for the washers and then you need to wire it and then install the hoses. It was not worth the time and effort so I did not bother with hooking them up.

Honestly, I'm thinking about unhooking mine. They work fine, but they dirt up the housing and surrounding areas at low speeds. I find you get a dried soupy residue and it collects dirt easier. I like to keep the car detailed, so thats a pain. And honestly, I've never 'needed' them.

so where does the pump go, and approx. how much is it? I wouldnt mind taking a nice day out and setting these up. Has anyone done it?

Wipers woulda been nice but just a spray does very little to clean the lense.

Robert, that's such a cool picture. Obviously, one that the driver never gets to see. I have the washers but have never used them. I don't even really know how to. I assume they come on automatically with the windshield washers, which I've also never used since I usually have my car washed weekly.

They come on when you use your windshield squirter. Makes sense..clean the windshield, the headlites must be dirty too.

Actually they come on when your headlights ARE ON and you use your windshield washer.

Your on your own as no one here has bothered when they upgraded their HID's. Contact you dealer or service department and see if they can lean you in the right direction. I had the part number somewhere when I was thinking about doing it and if I remember correctly it was around $70 but then you would have needed to do your own wiring and get a bunch of hose adapters and hoses. Was not worth the trouble since I did not want the windshield cleaner sprayed all over my paint anyway.

Not to be smart but a 2004 Service Manual shows you how to take everything apart and put it back together. A must have for DIY guys. Several of us have them. They are three volume and are published by Helm.
You want the 2nd item. This will cover everything you wish to work on.

Hey Robert? This service manual, does it tell you anything specific about taking the headlights themselves, apart? Taking the glass or polycarbonate plastic off the housing to clean the inside?

Sorry for the hijack....

The only time I can see those headlight washers coming in handy is during the winter in a cold climate, where salt and road spray gets all over the headlights.

Actually they come on when your headlights ARE ON and you use your windshield washer.

In theory, could I spray my windshield ONLY by turning off the headlights briefly and depressing the spray button (i.e. avoid the headlight washers all together??)

Robert - Is there a separate service manual for 2003 & 2005 or would 2004 cover all years? Does it include wiring diagrams? THANKS!

Mine is the newest. The 2004. It takes Helms forever to get these out. Cost $135. Here's a link to what Helm has to offer. I think mine has already paid for itself. Ody also has one and actually turned me into getting the set. Comebine that with the CTS parts list and you can figure out what's goin' on.

Yes, that will work. The headlamp washers squirt every 5th revolution of the winsdshield washers. But if the headlamps aren't on, the headlamp washers won't squirt.
But if ya need to clean your headlamps, ya need to use them too ;) I've never had a problem with them getting too dirty, to where it really hurts the light output. I quick washcloth over the lense is good every couple days.

I also clean/polish/wax my headlamps every detailing. Keeps them clean longer I find.
