"I hear it might have 20 horsepower on the Honda," said Kalkhoven, speaking of the Chevrolet engine that's been overhauled and designed by Cosworth since the middle of the 2003 IRL season. "I know it's a damn good engine."

Good enough, it turns out, that after General Motors bids farewell to the IRL at the end of 2005 there's another major manufacturer seriously interested in badging the Cosworth and keeping it alive in Tony George's series.

SPEEDTV.com has learned that Hyundai, the seventh largest car manufacturer in the world, is the interested party. (http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/17709/)

The greatest spectacle in racing is slowly becoming the greatest debacle in racing. :nono:

Not to knock Hyundai, but atleast a manufacture is stepping up to the plate. Ford made a big mistake giving up Cosworth, GM will be making the same mistake. If they can take and make it better. Then go ahead give it a try.

i belive ford still has cosworths , in cart , and ford is still heavily tied to cosworth , abiet they dont own them anymore ....

The chevrolet cosworth is a interesting story , it as built when ford toyed witht he idea on running a "lincolin" engine to compete with the infiniti indy and the olds aurora indy ....thinking ahead of time they built it at the same time the IRL was prepareing to go to the 3.5 engine formula ...

As Ive said before about Hyundai... More power to em...

Imagine if you were the little runt kid in the crowd trying to get the last piece of bread off the table and having to push your way through, and this is kind of how I feel about Hyundai... they just want to push their way through and make themselves known like their bigger cousins in the domestic, European and Asian markets.
