View Full Version : Replacing rear tires only with non Run FLats

Would there be any draw back on just replacing the rear tires only? I want the staggered look and they have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar on special at tirerack(275/40/18). I figured this will be alot cheaper than replacing all 4 tires. The only downside is that is a non-runflat, but other than that it is the same tire right?

Any thoughts?

A non runflat's sidewall won't be nearly as stiff. Now, you may get better overall traction with that wider tire, but your impression will be that the rear's turn-in won't feel nearly as sharp. It may feel like no improvement whatsoever.

For the price of the runflats, I'd recommend another tiremaker who has the staggered sizes. You could probably get all 4 for not much more than the price of the 2 Supercars.

That could lead to ill-effects....The tires will respond differently and you may lose handling balance...not a good thing if you push around turns. I do applaud your attempt at matching, but the sidewall difference would call for very high pressures in the rear to compensate. Wait...rotate your tires until they are dead...and then do it right.
Good luck,
