Road and Track's Long Term Test CTS-V has 10,531 miles and has now gone through 2 sets of rear runflats! This exceeded the maintenance costs of the next vehicle a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 with 48,504 miles! :histeric:
Drinks gas, eats tires and craps thunder! You gotta love the V! Too bad Road and Track can't switch up those tires.

Gee, shouldn't the Vette eat tires at the same rate since they are the exact same tire , maybe even more since they can actually spin their tires. I'm so sick of my dealer and GM telling me that the tires are only supposed to last 6k miles.:banghead:

Not sure but weight may add to the issue.....V is probably considerable more...

My 1987 Chevy Sprint had tiny tires with 145k on them and still ok...

The V runs F1 Supercar tires... so you have to compare with the Z06 not regular C5... many of those guys are getting ~10K out of their tires. (Though some do get more life out of them...)

Exactly though. There are almost twice as many ZO6's as V's and I have never heard of Z06 owners who drive their cars normally only getting 4-6k out of their tires. Did Gm ever send out a bulletin about it and ask Chevy dealers to post it in the showroom, and knock the tire rotation from 6k to 3k?

While technically my tires wore out very early, I have somehow made them last. I am almost at 15k miles without changing the tires.... I am waiting until I see cords, which should be in about 4 weeks..

Watch the inside of the fronts ... that's where the cords show first ! I got about 15K before I "corded".

My Z-06 wore the tires down in a manner similar to the V. At 6K miles, I might have had a bit more tread on the Z-06, but it was clear that by 8-9K miles, I would no longer feel comfortable with the tires, especially in wet weather.

The tires on both cars could probably be stretched to last 12-15K miles but the way I drive, I like to have alot of tread on my tires. I don't want to risk kissing a tree in order to save $800.

I'm almost at 6k without rotating once. I can see the rears don't exactly show all the grooves in the tread as the fronts. I'll be rotating them soon. I'm estimating to have to replace at 15k best case scenario. :D

I bet the guys at R&T are driving that V normally. ;)

12K out of my tires... and i had a few track events on them.

If the people getting 6K out of their tires really drive them "normal"... they have something wrong with their suspension / alignment / something...

I have 11k on mine, and they just hit the wear bars in the back. I've rotated twice. Once at about 3500, and once at 8000. I expect to get about 3k ish more out of them, untill they are ready to pop.

"let's see, this Stabilitrak setting does..."

(one offramp later)

"...and this one does..."

(next corner)

"...what if we turn them all off..."

(lather, rinse, repeat)

I think it's mostly the guidance system (you know, the one who pushes the pedals.)

I know guys who get 10K out of the rear tires on their M5s, I know guys who get 25K. I manage ~18-20K with four or five track days along the way.

in the rain with slicks (basically) you gotta love the "nanny" or "babysitter"

I had a friend (who cant drive worth a damn) do 2k damage to his Boxter in the rain cause he had bald tires and no babysitter...

I keep the babysitter on, but turn it off when I want to have fun... Just a little insurance.... Its great that the button is right there on the wheel and not hidden away in the glove box.
