I've noticed new GM Northstar Crate Engines popping up on various Web sites, e.g., www.karlperformanceparts.com. Would anyone know if GM has made any improvements to these engines to address some of the chronic problems such as the head gasket and oil leaks?

They're probably leftover production line engines - if anyone would know the answer, it would be Jake Wiebe at www.northstarperformance.com (http://www.northstarperformance.com) .
The engine assembly plant for our FWD Northstar line in Livonia was disassembled and the machinery sold off years ago.
Chronic ?? Statistically, the number of head gasket faults and excessive oil leakage in the FWD engine series is insignificant - not to the used buyer who has one - but in the big picture of total engine output. We see quite a few because this is a fixit site, not a "It's wonderful" site.
If they are "leftover" engine then they had to be the latest production runs and thus would be unlikely to have any of those problems.
