I was thinking about doing it myself to save some $$ but I definately don't want to overheat the engine which I heard can happen if air pockets get in the system.
I also want to flush the whole thing. Should I get a T adapter and splice it into the hose?
I've never done this before so any tips would be appreciated.

You can flush the system without the T-fitting. All you have to do is run the water from the upper hose port and let it go through the radiator.
Also make sure your mixture is 50/50 with 6 GM colant suppllement tabs or Bars-Leaks Gold-Seal powder (2 containers).

Does that flush out the coolant in the block too?

Sorry for the lack of response, but if you're going to flush the whole block, in which case you can, you're going to have to remove the thermostat for optimal flow. After that, everything should be ok.
