1990 eldo w/4.9. Any experienced techs out there with some common fixes for cruise controls? symptoms: Surges on flat straight run instead of holding a steady RPM. After five six surges it drops off. Car then acts as though there is no cruise control until I push the thottle slightly and it will then speed up again, but might run faster or slower than original speed setting. This is very annoying so I just tap the brake and reset the control. My car is a beaut, 310K miles and 200K on this engine, looks and runs great. I travel everywhere coast to coast and will continue to do so. Utterly reliable and everything works (almost).

Much thanks for any clues. Dealer techs are too young and too lazy to do a real analysis. Want to just swap parts at my expense until they accidentally get the right answer.

I got $10 bucks on a tired ol' worn out Cruise Control Motor (the vacuum thingy).
It probobly has a hole or slight perforation in it.

Any hissing under the hood while the car is running ?
