Basic combustion science says they're full of it. You still need the same mass of fuel to react with the oxygen no matter how you introduce that fuel into the reaction. Modern SFI engines are so close to the maximum efficiency there's not much room for improvement.

200 mpg is a far strech. However, doesn't anyone remember the super carburetors of the 80s? Or how about the guy who put that 3 or 4 inch hose running gee, fuel vapors from his tank to the engine and it ran great with a little tweaking? However, Dave is right. Doesn't matter how you do it but you still have to get to 14.7 to 1 somehow.
