does anyone know how to change or tell me where i can find out how to change i want to custimize when i start my 2002 sts from driver 1 to my name. i asked the dealer but he had no clue and nothing in the manual.:hmm:

AFAIK, this is done by the dealer using the TECH II tool, there is a way to write a name (or other message up to 20 characters) to the IPC for display when the driver memory is called up.

This is probably not covered in the service manual, there is probably some dealer only documentation on doing this since it can only be done with a TECH II hooked up (cannot be done on-board from cluster).

FWIW, I had asked my dealer service tech about this (it isn't available on my car, a 1995 Deville, which I was already aware of) just because I was curious how it worked and he said it was a real pain, that each character has a code number (kind of like ASCII code on computers) that has to be keyed in from the TECH II. Also that centering the message has to be calculated manually and leading spaces inserted or the message will just left justify on the display.

If your dealer doesn't know about this he needs to get on the stick, this has been available on the Deville since at least 2001 I believe.
