Anyone see any reason why I shouldn't go to a 255/35/18 or a 265/35/18 competition tire on all four corners? If so, why?

Thanks in advance!

Check to see how many revolutions per mile difference from stock. If it is less then you gear ratio wil go down. And does the stock rim handle this difference? What are you trying to achieve with this? Looks, grip or handeling?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup:You may lose some speed in a long backstretch. I just think a 245/40 18 race tire is going to feel worlds above any street tire, why mess too much?

Smaller rolling diameter by 5 - 6% on the tires. The reason to switch sizes is that it is hard to find a perfect match. Those two sizes are the most prominent. Looks take a backseat to grip, which is the goal. Maximum grip. It's gonna be the first time for me to drive such a portly beast around a circuit and I want to ensure that I have the proper shoes.

The overall diameter of the factory tires are 26.68".
The 255/35 overall diameter is 25.02". Losing over 1 1/2 inches.
The 265/35 overall diameter is 25.30". Losing over 1 inch.

To keep it close to factory the sizes for 18" rims that you should look for are..

245/45/18 (factory)
255/45/18
265/40/18
275/40/18
285/40/18 (not sure if this size actually fits)

You've already got plenty of grip at the track. Are you talking about racing or just high performance tires? Although we may not think much of suspension engineers working at car companies, they often do a great job. And many of us without a background in these concepts often look at performance improvement as being additive, without understanding the entire subsystem... and then end up with something that is fun to brag about but performs no better as an entire package (and more often worse).

IMHO, an extra half-inch of tire isn't going to make any difference in your track experience. If you go to race rubber, your suspension most definitely hasn't been setup for that type of grip nor breakaway characteristics. Please provide a bit more info on what you are doing, and maybe some of us can help.

Lapping days with my friends. No door to door (Can you justify that in such an expensive car without being independently wealthy or sponsored?) racing but hot laps. Hallett is about a hour and a half from my house and it's a great road course, but I want some more aggressive tires.

I found a deal on some Dunlop Super Sport Race tires in the 265/35 and 255/35's. While searching for alternatives, I didn't find much of anything else to match size-wise. Especially in the same price point.

Anyone here do much hot lapping on different rubber other than the stock tires or alternative street tire?

Bump, mostly to see if anyone has ran a 265 width tire on their front stock rim.
