View Full Version : Power Mirror Switch?

Hey folks, does anyone have any ideas or experience with the side mirrors not responding to one direction? Both passenger and driver mirror do not respond to the same direction from the switch (right). My caddy is a 95 STS. By obvious logic I would think it's the mirror control switch. I'm wondering if the switch is needing replacing or if there's a wire to the switch not making proper contact. I also have a power window (right passenger) not responding to its driver control switch or for the window switch located on that door itself. I noticed the window problem shortly after getting this car and took it into the dealer. Of course it appeared to be a phantom problem and worked fine when GM looked at it. Some months later it stopped working (window) again and I have avoided the dealership on this since then since they didn't seem to know then. The mirror scenario is recent and never happened originally at the same time I initially noticed the window problem. Before I take off the door panel or bite the dealership bullet, I thought it was worth putting this out here first. Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

Either both of your mirrors suffered the same failure simultaneously (unlikely) or the switch is bad.

No need to remove the door panel. From the service manual:
1. Use a 1/2" wide flat bladed tool to pry up the rear edge of the trim plate.
2. Insert the blade 3/4" into the door trim to engage the retention clip. Press firmly towards the switch plate to disengage clip.
3. Pull flat bladed tool upward while pressing firmly towards plate to pull plate from trim panel.

In the drawing, item #4 is the "Retention Clip."

Thanks so much for the reply. This was my thinking. I'll let you know once I do this. Very much appreciated, awsome!
