I finished writing a long and rambling message/intro about the AWESOME car my brother gave me and when I clicked "submit" I wasn't logged in .. The message is lost in cyber space forever I guess. I will start all over .. aaarrgghh

My brother gave me a 87 Sedan DeVille with 31,000 original miles .. GREAT HUH ?? He was tired of paying insurance and property tax on the Caddy [lives in Connecticut] and he drove it to me in Florida this past weekend.

The caddy has been garage kept it's entire life. Everything is MINT but I think I will maybe need is this rubber or plastic moulding that goes around the rear window. Not the rubber that holds the window to the car, this is sort of a decorative trim that is painted the same color as the car ...

I do not know what that is called, so I can't search for it . . For the summer I will be driving the Caddy and parking my 67 VW bus [it is getting a new engine] so I can have airconditioning for the first time in 30 years. AHHHH ..

My brother said the window where cracked moulding stuff is falling apart, does NOT LEAK .. but I don't want him to be wrong and have to go searching for this at the last minute .. Or do I resort to caulk ?? ugh .. I hope not ..

dont resort to caulk on a 31k lac. i had this on my 86 coupe but didnt have the car long enough to do anything to it. im not sure if they still sell that but do not resort to caulk. nice grab. it shouldnt leak anyway but that is asuming that it wont be the victim of a good ol florida tropical storm rain.

It seems to be pretty normal for that thing to start cracking and falling apart like that. That isn't what seals the window so if you see water leaking into the car something else is wrong.

I will get a picture before the inside starts looking like "LOW TIDE." This caddy really is MINT. I don't think anyone ever rode in the back seat. The odometer says 55,000 but the engine was replaced or rebuilt at 21,000 miles. My brother said something about the engine and oil and ??? Maybe it was a recall? and Caddy did the rebuild ?

I grew up on Miami Beach and everyone drove a Caddy. We called them "Jew Canoes." I AM JEWISH and I was never offended by that name, but my parents didn't laugh when I said it .. OH WELL .. The reason I am telling this is because I ordered a vanity plate .. JUKANU .. The DMV gave me the application and on it there was a question that asked what the name means. I told them it was my great grandmothers maiden name.

SO .. back to my new car .. It is GREAT .. I think the paint is original, and it is PERFECT .. I found one or two little chips which I will fix and the seat leather is still as soft as the day it was on its birthday. You can't imagine what an AWESOME RIDE it feels like to me. As I said before, I have been driving a 67 VW bus since 1973 or maybe it was 1974 when I bought it, filled it full of friends and took it from Miami to Tampa to see Led Zeppelin. I have to remember to constantly watch the speedometer. Something I never needed to do in the bus.

The dash has no cracks, the stereo sounds GREAT. The ashtray has never been used and even though I am a smoker, I don't think I will smoke in the Caddy. It smells practically show room fresh.

Yesterday I went to look at stereos. I hate the radio stations here. But I don't know for sure that I want to replace the stereo. I just want a CD player. Thinking I will maybe put a cd changer in the trunk and leave the radio as it is.

Under the hood looks GREAT .. no oil and gunk .. No cracks in the steering wheel. I was thinking "what is this car worth?" because I need to insure it. Can anyone tell me ??

Guess that's all for now .. I will take pictures and put them on my website. When I get that done, you can find it at www.tokensandmedals.com/caddy.htm (http://www.tokensandmedals.com/caddy.htm)

I will have them up before 5pm. Probably before 1pm.

I've always heard them called "Yom Kippur Clippers". Anyways, congrats on the new Caddy!

Thanks for posting the pictures. Beautiful car! I once owned a '87 SDV ... bought it new and enjoyed driving it for several years. Your pictures brought back good memories of that car. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. Good luck with it.
