Just want to say that a 1998 Deville is limited to about 115mph:bouncy:

Still had juice though, the engine was running at 4600 rpm in 4th gear when the governor kicked in:D

Thats prolly cuz the tires arent rated above that.

That's all? lol. In my last car, a '93 Honda Accord, I had that shit up to 120. lol. It still coulda went, but the tires were a bit shakey. That's the beauty of not having a governour or a rev limiter. haha.

:drinker

Might of since the 1st gear took me to about 50 mph, I won't be surprised if the Deville can actually be made to go REALLY fast...not saying it's not fast already for a huge car.

Someone once told me that my 90 Regal GS was governed at 180km/h so I set out to see for myself. Not sure what this converts to in miles but that car with it's 3.1L V6 still had room to excel while I was doing 212km/h .. the tires however did not so I slowed down as I felt death was imminent if I stayed at that speed for long.

Anyway if that car could manage such speeds with no problem, I would bet a Deville could bury that. Wouldn't wanna try it with my 91 with the not so great tires on it.. plus the regal had a digital dash and this doesn't.

Actually...you're very correct. It's very quick until overdrive kicks in. lol. That's the killer. Overall...it's probably equal in speed to my Accord until the end of 3rd. I still had 1 more gear plus the od. But really...the 89 DeVille sedan is like 3,500 or something slightly more than that. That's not much. My moms 02 Mustang is almost that...and it's smaller.

I'll tell ya now... no way at all will you be redlining 4th with a NorthStar :)

1st = ~45mph 2 = ~80mph 3rd = ~125mph

try what?

1993 DeVille (2.73 gears):

1st - 45mph

2nd - 85mph

3rd ..... I was doing 110 when the speed limiter came in... in 3rd, around 4,200RPM, so there was still about 800RPM left in 3rd.

1989 Oldsmobile (3800 V6, optional 2.93 gears) :

1st - 43mph

2nd - 80mph

3rd - I got it to 113mph, in 3rd, no clue on RPM.... didn't hit the speed limiter (yet) for for about 5 seconds I had my foot to the floor and she wasn't gaining any (slight up hill) so I let off.

1979 DeVille (2.28 gears)

1st - 53mph

2nd - 110mph

^ if left in drive, it'll shift into 2nd around 85, but it is shifting at 3,400 RPM instead of 3,900 it shifts into 2nd, so with the tach, I manually keep it in second, the car tops out around 110 in 2nd, pushing around 4,100RPM. It's been awhile and the tires on it are bald and off balance, and not very good at all, so I havn't done too much... I just bought new tires, once I get them on I'll check the top speed out again.

all GPS verafied :)
