In my 96 when I take traction control off there is no power at all. Is this a safety feature so you don't blow something up? Any way to override it?

I'm not a mechanic but it sounds like somethings wrong with the traction control. caddydaddy 06-02-05, 01:34 PM Nothing is wrong. The car starts out in 2nd gear with the traction control off to help the car get moving in heavy snow. It also it to protect the transmission. weister42 06-02-05, 01:41 PM Nothing is wrong. I turned my traction off and my car didn't feel like it started in 2nd gear...still the same pull from every stoplight. caddydaddy 06-02-05, 01:57 PM Well, I don't know what to tell ya! All Northstar transmissions start out in 2nd gear with the TC off! carmaster 06-02-05, 07:30 PM Can I bypass it by pulling the TC fuse? Or will it revert to the traction control turned off settings? Ranger 06-02-05, 09:48 PM Can I bypass it by pulling the TC fuse? Or will it revert to the traction control turned off settings? 1. No 2. Yes caddydaddy 06-03-05, 09:08 AM And you will also lose the ABS function! weister42 06-03-05, 11:30 AM Starting in 2nd gear with the traction control off kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it? Maybe if you hammer on the gas it will go back to 1st gear or leave a trail of tire smoke:cool: caddydaddy 06-03-05, 11:44 AM If you hold down the parking brake, and mash the gas the front tire will smoke. Not sure how good that is for the transmission though! Night Wolf 06-04-05, 12:09 AM to "really" disable traction control on this car, *when it is running* remove the ABS fuse.... no ABS, and no TC.... your car now starts in 1st, and has full use of the NorthStar in 1st... :) | |
