: Interested in a Custom CTS hood?

Hey guys, I'm from the normal CTS boards and I had created a post there in regards to getting a custom hood. I'm sure that the hood would fit both the CTS and CTS-V so i'm here to see if I can get a little more support here.

www.domesticperformance.com (http://www.domesticperformance.com) does the custom hood job and requires 3 hoods to be purchased in a group buy in order for them to create and send the completely 100% custom hood to its recipients.

The 3 hoods have to be the same, in otherwords all 3 members must agree on the same style hood in order for production to begin. The cost of each hood is $690, which is cheap considering the price of hoods.

Here was my idea:

- A Ram-Air hood that almost exactly replicates that of the WS-6 Pontiac Trans-Am with Ram-Air package.

- Instead of being rounded, the Ram-Air hood would feature the same extreme angles as the CTS, but would retain the same appearance as the WS-6 Firebird.

- The chrome trim that you find on the tip of the nose will also be on this hood to keep the chrome grille looking the same way.

DomesticPerformance says that upon agreeing to the hood, they will create a computer composite/pictures of the hood on the vehicle so that if there are any needs to make any changes, we can make them.

I'd appreciate your input here guys! I want to do this! Currently there is 1 person other than myself who is interested in the idea.

Charlie, this is what myself and a couple of others have talked about recently.

I like the ram air idea, but maybe the Firebird may be a bit too loud.....? Too '05 GTOish?

How about a subtle slit across the nose of the hood, for the ram effect, then move up into a nice 1 1/2 " cowl extending to the rear of the hood?

Wow, this post blew up! I'm not at all interested in the idea of a cowl or STS-V hood, reason being because i'm not trying to make a CTSTS-V, nor am I trying to make a 1984 Camaro. ...others will argue, however, that I would be trying to make a 2002 Firebird...well, I think that the Ram-Air nose of the Firebird would REALLY compliment the front end of the vehicle...the extreme angles would also give it its own personal touch. Get some mesh grille inserts for the Ram-Air hood maybe a "Ram-Air" decal that matches the font on the interior and you're in business. Specter Werks is going to be BEYOND expensive, I won't even look at them and a cowl hood would not be functional whereas the hood I suggest would be, due to hood clearance.

If you want to order two separate hoods, I suppose that can happen too, we can post here either of the two...one cowl and one Ram-Air.

www.cervinis.com
They are expensive, they also blew me off when I asked about the V....
With most outfits, if they cant sell 200 or more , they are not interested.
The V is a peculiar shape. The wrong stuff can really screw up the 'look'..

Can Someone do up a picture of the STS-V hood with the heat extractors? Just to see it. Personally I like the STS-V hood on the CTS-V, we had another post a while back where someone showed the the CTS-V with the STS -V cowl hood. I think it was Joe from Bayside NY.
The heat extractors may not be refined enough for me and my caddy.

I agree. The STS-V hood is too subtle a change to be worth it. I want something that speaks of power and if be functional. The STS-V hood just doesn't do it.

Hence why I suggested an opening parallel to the grill and then a slightly taller cowl.

This gives it the muscular look.

I'm not sure if the gab comment was a crack or a compliment........anyway, there is a guy in Ohio who does short runs, but I haven't had a chance to get with him in all my spare time.

It sure sounds like fiberglass, just went out and looked at it. I always thought in was an aluminum hood like what came on my Lightning factory. My guess is it is fiberglass like the cobra factory hood..

[EDIT] Oh yeah, I am in if we can agree on a good looking hood.. I like the STS hood as well, add the Spectra style vents with just a tad taller cowl and you have a winner.. In my opinion anyway..:coolgleam

I personally think the WS6 style Ram Air hood would look terrible on these cars.

And I even own a Ram Air T/A, and love the looks of the hood.

It just would look cheesy imo.

Now the STS-V hood with heat extractors would be hot.

Kadonny, bear in mind that the Ram Air hood would feature the angular shape of the CTS, not the rounded version you see on the Firebird.

Charlie, to gain any traction on this, you may want to enlist someone to photochop something up for you. A picture paints a thousand words.

One other thing to keep in mind, is with a ram air setup, that aleviates the need for a bend in the air intake, you could also remove that screen over the MAF, which would free up airflow just a bit (according to everything I've read, it's a no-no to remove the screen with a non-straight intake.)

Eitherway, I like my hood the way it is :D

I hear you. Still I feel one of the best traits of the V is the fairly suble looks about it. Sleeper. A Ram Air hood the likes of what you are talking about would scream for attention.

Photoshop or some other depiction would be good to get an idea of what you would be doing.

THe hood is cool looking its just really thin! Im not sure what it will look like black . Silver is a forgiving color. I may have it dusted to see how flat it is before going to a full paint. The pic here shows a louvered hood that I had made.

Yep it does look better & for making it yourself lasstss.

IMHO, i think GM should have gave the V a hood designed in its own class. Just like GTO, trans am, vette, Z28's/Irocs and all the others i left out, they all had there "special" look to compliment each design. I just do not understand why GM did not make one for us V owners, at least as an option to choose from. that way alot more owners would have been happy. Some like the stock hood as it is now, others want that meat grinding street owning look that car hoods have always gave from way back. Remember the cars of the late 60's into the 70's.. cowl induction to ram hoods that dodge gave there cudas, challengers & of course the hemi cars of that time.

Anyway just my thoughts. Stock hood we have now does look good, but it is a conservative look. But this is not the normal caddy so out the window that went when they designed it. With the V being so new & By the time alot of car making companies have high choices of parts from us V owners to choose from, most of us will have probably moved on by then to something else anyway.

Laterz, blitzer ;)
