I have a 1983 Coupe DeVille. The problem with the climate control is that when I have it set at 60° and "auto", it blows nice and cold but always at high fan speed. On any other setting, including "off" and "auto with temp over 60°" and the thing blows hot air. When in off position, sometimes it blows warm through the floor vents and then sometimes it switches over and blows warm through defroster.

I don't have a clue where to start looking for the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is either the programmer or the blower motor.

The programmer being the button panel or the computer itself? What's the best source for a replacement part? I think the blower motor itself is fine, as it blows in relative silence, but I was wondering about the panel.

Sounds like the system is ignoring temperature input from the thermister.
Do you feel lucky? Start replacing stuff.
Don't feel lucky? Get a shop manual on EBAY. The A/C? trouble trees in there are excellent. Get a real manual and not a generic like Chilton for this type of information.
I'd look it up for you but my manual was loaned out about 15 years ago and has walked away.

I've been trying for three years to get a shop manual on eBay. Can't ever find one for 1983. Well, one time I found one, but somebody out bid me at the last second (literally). But no, I'm not feeling lucky either. What is the thermistor, where is it, and how can I test it?

Sorry but too much water under the bridge to remember enough to give advice. The shop manuals from 81 to at least 85 should all cover your climate control. Someone on here oughta have one.

How about it. . .any one out there have an 81-85 shop manual? Could you post the AC trouble trees?

Sorry for the delay in response but I have been so damn busy with finals.

No, the programer is the black box located behind the glove box. This box also has the motor which controls the temp. door.

Get a few of these programmers from the junk yard and try that out.
Good luck.

OK, thanks. I'll try that out. Good luck with the finals.
