I was wondering what the longevity is for a 4.9L ballpark figure. I found one that I am interested in with 150K approx. It drives smooth and everything seems Ok with the exception of a hot start issue. It is noiser than my N* Caddy but other than that it seems nice. Is this too many miles or can they go 200K + like N*s? Thanks.

They have been known to get more miles with less trouble then N*
150k is not much at all for a properly maintained 4.9..... oil changes and coolant changed with the pellet stuff is all that is needed...
150k I would be more concered about the transmission then the enigne....
There is one I know of here with over 450,000 kms and no trouble!! As long as they are maintained, etc. However, some the gizmos on the car might start to give some trouble at that mileage...
Many go up to and over 150 with little or no trouble and the 4.9 has been called the best engine Cadillac has ever made.

I've got 207K miles on mine. No major work has been done on the engine.

I run low 15 second quarter mile times with mine at 156,500 miles. Not recomended, but they are decent engines. My transmission is another concern though.

I think my major concern for the future might be the air shocks developing leaks. Midas told me $1200 if that happens, to put in passives. My Aunt has a 1991 735, and even the BMW dealership said they "Won't" do it if that happened to their car!!! Too complex or maybe they can't get the parts?

I have 114,000 on my '94 4.9. And with how smooth and reliable it runs, I'm sure another 100k would be no problem for it!

I was sitting in a drive thru last night thinking the same thing , there it was running so smooth i wasnt positive it was running .....140,000 miles , only thing ive don tothe engine internally was toss some GM EOS in the crank case , between that and the delvac she runs as new ....
Trannys however im still concerned about , ive eaten mine at 130k....
with proper maintenace and a occiaional GM EOS chaser i see it running till the worlds oil reserves have run dry ....LOL
what dies in the tranny
around that mileage???

Do you put the EOS in at every oil change? and how much?
maybe I should put it in the mix of Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30....

The TBI 4.5 is close enough to a 4.9. But on my 4.5 in my 89 Sedan DeVille it has 284,xxx miles (knock on wood and pray that it lives a little more). The car runs great but blows out a little bit of smoke.
