I am a proud owner of an 98 Deville with 35,000 miles on the OD. On Sunday afternoon while driving I noticed a smokey smell inside the car. I had the AC on low and then switched it to high and a cloud of smoke came out of the center AC vents. I pulled over turned off the car and opened the hood there was no smoke. I turned the AC off and headed home, with the AC off I did not noticr any smoke. I pulled the Radio to see if there was any signs of fire under the dash, I saw notihing. I can not find on the web Cadillac Devilles haveing any history of dash fires exc. Can anyone help me with any ideas of what could be wrong???? And what to do, will Cadillac fix free of charge?

Does the A/C still work? If not then the A/C compressor is shot, I have had this happen to me, but not with a Cadillac.

I don't think the compressor will send smoke throught the vents. I would guess you fried a blower motor. Not uncommon in these cars. I just replaced mine a few months ago. The blower motor has been redisigned. Does the blower work in the econ mode?

It would almost have to be the blower motor. There's nothing else in the vent system that would cause smoke. Door motors are external, evap core is sealed, etc. Unless it's drawing it from outside or under the hood....
