Hi Caddy Owners,

I have an 87 Seville and it began like a mess of posts I saw here, except I tried to reply to a thread with like 5 paragraphs and got a log in error thing, so I'll retype it here.

As many other people are having issues with, I couldn't figure out why my Caddy was not charging even though I spent $60 on a battery and $115 on an alternator. UGH... Anyway, a lot of playing and a repair manual led me to a troubleshooting technique that pinpointed the problem - the question is, where to go from there?

The problem was pinpointed by removing the L-Terminal plug [the plastic plug on the bottom rear of the alternator with 3 wires going in it]. With this removed, turn the key to the ON position - if the NO CHARGE [or whatever] light goes OFF, this means you have a ground in that circuit - mine did go off.

Also, while the L-Terminal was unplugged, my car ran better, no sputtering, RPMs stayed normal, and accessories didn't stall me - only problem - it was running off the battery.

Okay, problem found - ground in the L-Terminal circuit - NOW WHAT?

It is nearly impossible to trace it back to the computer unless someone could tell me which of the connectors, and which number wire on that connector which are plugged into the computer itself, are the coinciding wires for the 2 supposedly coming from this L-Terminal.

Otherwise, does anyone know how to run some sort of jumper wire to bypass the need for this connection altogether and get me a charge coming to my battery.

Wire colors according to Haynes manual: The 3 wires, Red1 to starter, Red2 to computer, Grey to computer.

I love my Caddy, I want her back!
