okay my engine makes a knocking/pinging noise when I accelerate(especially when it is hot outside as it is now) I get regular oil changes(using valvoline 10w30 high mileage) and I use premium octane gas. It will knock/ping/clank badly as I accelerate and then smooth out. I can't figure out what this could be. I planning on driving from N. Texas(Texoma) to the Florida panhandle in a few weeks and hate to get stranded. I also have changed my coolant and used Barsleak from Autozone. Please help

You may want to make sure that your timing is in correct tune. Check it out and see if the noise goes away.

Also, your car is the Fleetwood Brougham with the 5.0 liter, right?

If it knocks only at SLIGHT acceleration(city driving) when engine is hot - it maybe spark knock because of EGR system malfunction. It's quite hurmless.

You may want to make sure that your timing is in correct tune. Check it out and see if the noise goes away.

Also, your car is the Fleetwood Brougham with the 5.0 liter, right?

Is the car a FWD model? Or the RWD Brougham model? I'm a little confused because I was under the impression that all Fleetwood/Brougham ('85-'96) models were RWD with the small-block Chevy engine :hmm:
