I don't get it about not being able to start unless the Canadian version is different. As we all know there is a slot in the console for a fob that is not recognized.

I sent them an email... as follows...

Reciently I had followed a link to your web-site to read your review on the 2005 Cadillac STS V6, which was written by Haney Louka. Overall the article is very well written and I enjoyed it and felt that it was a correct portral of the car. The only part that I thought was mis-leading was stating that GM did not have a fail safe in place if the key fob could not be recongized. Its states directly in the owners manual that if you recieve the no fob detected message.

"If moving the transmitter to different locations within the vehicle does not help, place the transmitter in the center console transmitter pocket with the buttons facing foward and then press the start button."

GM has clearly stated this in the owners manual under there DIC Warnings and Messages section. So your statement and I quote "So apparently I'm not the only one out there who thinks there's a fundamental flaw in the design of Cadillac's keyless-start system"

Is incorrect, GM did it first and did it the best. I think you owe the readers of this article an apology because once again, a magazine did not check there facts before making comments.

--- I will let u know if they bother to replay back.

From the article
I contacted GM and asked if there are any known issues related to high humidity affecting the operation of the Smart Access system, to which they replied "no". They did say that the system is very sensitive to interference and noted that a cell phone in close proximity to the fob could have prevented its detection. ....

Pity the person from GM did not have the presence of mind to engage in this conversation fully and make sure the author knew about the failsafe. Mr Louka was able to get straight answers from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Infiniti, and Lexus.

Wrong. Turns out that would make the car easier to steal, GM's representatives told me. Even the folks at mighty OnStar were limited to calling a tow truck to take the car to the local Cadillac dealer.

What is the point of having expensive support (OnStar) if they do not have vehicle specific guidence ?

Onstar is a joke. Everything they offer is over priced and everything needs an upgrade. Onstar is the 2000's under coating.. I just dont see the need for it, nor will I be extending it when the contract ends. Only feature I like is the phone. But at 0.25 a min. They can keep it.
