Honda Motor Co.'s powertrains are the new industry benchmark in General Motors' eyes. (http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=53180)

Honda's engines and transmissions ranked first among those of six automakers included in an internal GM analysis of the latest J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study data.

Honda powertrains had 15.3 problems per 100 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership, according to data in the GM analysis obtained by Automotive News.

GM powertrains were second-best on the list -- ahead of Toyota Motor Corp. for the first time in eight years. Toyota ranked No. 1 in the GM analysis last year.

I'll vouch for GM powertrains. Only the best.

Maybe Honda powertrains are trouble-free because most of them are boring inline 4s stuck in a Civic, or a V6 here and there, with no V8s to be found.

I think that you have to give credit where credit is due. Honda has been improving in both efficiency and power. Four bangers are cool in their own right, and hey... with $8,000 you can make a honda pretty damn fast.

With $8000 you can probably make a 1400hp Cadillac 500..

How long is it taking them??? look at the Quad 4 of 1990, didn't they have around 190 hp?? How's that for power compared to a modern Honda Vtek! I don't know why that Quad 4 engine didn't become more popular, but instead it faded away..

For 8,000 more (or under) I would buy a SRT-4 to be overly competitive with the Ricers.

the Quad 4 made tons of power .....by mid 93 they were making the 190 in the SCCA ready option package Acheivas...but that was out of 2.3 litres ..it hung around till the ecotec replaced it in the J body ...but for a little while Z24s and Sunfire GTs came with 2.4l Quad 4s

by honda is making what 240hp from 2.4 litres ....they brag about it all the time , but like the Quad 4 your have to wring it out like a dry chamoise to get anything out of it...well not exactly ...the quad 4 was more useable ....

Chrysler Spirit R/Ts made 224 HP from 2.2 litres and a turbo breatheing thru a lotus head ...that motor was a ton of fun ....till it blew the head ...

The motor that honda has that is making 240 horsepower, is actually a V-6. The new honda civic Si that is coming out in late November is actually going to be a 1.6L I-4 that makes 200bhp and 188lb-ft torque. If I may say so myself, it doesn't look too bad either.

The dodge srt4 is bad ass. It makes 230bhp and 250 lb-ft torque with a DOHC 2.4L four banger. You have to realize though... the SRT has a turbo, and an intercooler.

I like them all... if it will get me somewhere, and get me there fast.... I'm cool with it.

The 2.2 inline four in the S2000 makes 240hp :coolgleam ... and a whopping 162ft.lbs. :helpless:
