With gas price being so high, I was curious to see what everyone is filling up with Regular or Premium?

Since I have own my truck. I fill-up with 87 on every fill-up. On the seventh fill-up I use 92 or 93. I have been told to do that by a lot of people and have followed it religishly.

Premium for me, I get a nice sounding knock with 87.

93 its the best, i filled my tank up once with 89 and the truck drank thru it like it was water.

Here in europe where the gas price is even more insane I use unleaded 95, but it still running very smooth and quick. on highway driving I almost get 20 miles/gallon.

I use regular. My parents lexus dealer told them that they could use 85 in both theirs, and they call for premium. He said it was something with the altitude, so If they can use reg in the lex's I can use reg in the lade. Although he did say if we are ever at sea level to use the good stuff.

92 or 93 octane premium, I have my computer reprogrammed and need the higher octane, the 6.0 engine is an HO and requires 91 octane according to GM

I fill up with premium 99% of the time, my brother has an 05 Platinum Edition ESV which he has been filling up with 87 and then with 92 four tanks later similar to Boombotz. He started doing this after his gas bill reach $500 (his suv alone)...he keeps telling me I should do the same.:confused: ...But it doesn't sound like GM recommends it.

I ran regular 87 on one fill up by mistake and the escalade ran very sluggish because the computer detunes it. With premium it runs a lot faster and is very peppy. Spending the money i did for the car i can not see saving a few dollars to drive a dog. :yup: :yup:

I havn't tried anything besides premium in my EXT, but I know from driving other escalades in the past, the 87 grade will knock badly and the truck will respond very slowly. The midgrade usually is not that bad, don't notice much of a slack from the vehicle

depends if you have the 5.3 or the 6.0 premium is needed on the 6.0 so cadillac says due to the high output higher compression,i use premium myself and i do have the 6.0

I have compromised and used the mid-grade 89 octane ever since I took delivery of my '05 6.0. Runs great, no pinging.

I was using mid grade gas, before I read these postings... I filled up with premium lastnight. I'll see if I can detect a change in performance. I haven't had the ping issue thus far, but I'm not ready to start gambling with it either.

My dad has an 04 and the manual says you can use regular grade he said. His buddy just got an 05 and he said it said that 87 is ok for that model. For my 02 I use 93.

I have used regular, premium and midgrade since I bought it new months back. It seems I get better mileage and performance with premium than regular. So now I just compromise and use mid considering most of my driving is 3k rpm or lower. So 89 octane for me in my 05 Escalade. Never had any knocking or pinging with any of the grades but I have yet to use regular in hot weather.

I filled up with regular once and my 04 EXT didn't like it at all.
It was Very noticable that it didn't run good at all.

I have never notice the difference when I fill up with regular or premium. After reading the posts I will start using premium.

Been driving an 03 Escalade since June of that year. Started with regular and have not changed. No noise or pinging. Mileage on interstate is about 19.5 at 75 mph. Dealership said use regular and if you are going to change to do it gradually over 2-3 tanks. Not drag racing so why waste the money. Same for my 05 STS. Engine performs well with regular so why waste the money.

It's hard to get the new cars and trucks to "ping", instead the cars or trucks computer retards the timing to protect the engine, you get slightly less performance depending on how much the computer has to retard the timing of the engine. :)

19.5 MPG at 75 MPH..That's really good mileage. At 75 MPH I'm averaging 16.5!

On my way home from purchasing my Escalade.. I was hit in the middle of the intersection by someone who failed to yield. (he was turning, on a green but you must yield to traffic.) Anyhow my rental was a 2005 ford expediton, that truck would PING when sitting idle, and it only had 10,000 miles.. a few of the guys where I work were laughing at me, but I had to remind them it wasn't my truck. So there are some vehicles that are new, that will PING on you.

Fords are a different story. :D :D

87 octane always. It runs great and I get 15.4 miles a gallon around town (no highway) It's an 2004. I even use 87 when I tow a car and trailer and have no complaints about performance.

I've used all three grades due to rational consumption in the Bay Area. Although I use premium now that prices are dropping a little, I didn't really notice any difference when using regular. The only thing I notice is my paranoia increasing that something bad will happen to my ride. I think it all depends on the person and how alert they are with their ride. I don't drive my car all that often, so I guess that's why I don't know shieet about the differences of ride.

Since recently switching to premium gas.. I have noticed 1 thing for sure, I get better gas milage. I was using mid grade before, and I don't really notice a performance improvement.. But I'm also trying to stay under 3K rpm. "trying"
