I took the V in for the first "flush" change since new with 908 miles. I was surprised how dark the oil was for this few miles. I understand Mobil 1 has more detergent than lesser oil, hence picking up more dirt, hence making it darker. Still, it seemed unusually dark. I have been VERY easy on this car, only one trip to 4,800 rpm and one to 5,200. Other than that, idling 'round town and normal cruise on highway. What's the first change oil color that everyone's seeing out there, and at what mileage was the change done?

first oil change was at 1200 miles. Dirty oil, metal shavings on magnet. As long at you removed 6 dirty quarts or so plus the filter, all is normal.

Its problably because it is an all alluminum motor. Wears alot easier than an iron block.

I just changed my oil yesterday at 11,000 miles and I'm still getting a good amount of filings on the drain plug.

Bought mine used at 5368 miles, did an oil change then, had metal shavings and one chunk on the drain plug. Getting ready to do my second now 2000 miles later, we'll see how she looks.

Don't worry, Mobil 1 is the best there is, you didn't get a bad batch.

Just changed mine over the weekend with 730 miles, same thing, dark with a bit on the drain plug magnet. Sure seemed like it took a long time to build pressure after the oil change, low oil pressure indicator came on for what seemed like forever. Not near as bad as when I forgot to put the oil back in my Explorer and then fired it up, hmmmm, I wonder why no pressure?

The color of the oil has nothing to do with how effective it is. At less than 100 miles, your oil was still fine unless you have serious problems no matter what the color was.

:thumbsup: Damn good idea. With as many oil changes as I've done, never thought of it before. With the upright mount, works out just right. I use to pull the coil wire, and crank it first.
