View Full Version : SRT-8 Kill

Well, boys and girls... it finally happened.

I pull up to a stop light behind a Chrysler 300 and I'm zoning out as usual when I look at the back and see in bright red letters, SRT-8. No way can I let this opportunity go by, so at the next light I pull up next to the car and ask the driver (admittedly a late 30's early 40's woman) if she's really run it out yet. She says no, I say its time to and she nods (admittedly with some serious prodding from the hubby in the passenger seat).

We take off, and I get the single greatest launch I've ever had with the V... a nice less than one second spin and pur hook up. Through first we're close, but they are at the middle of the passenger door, through second they lose ground to the back of the passenger door, and by then end of third she was right at the back of the car... one hell of a ride.

Of course, the highlight was that they had no idea what a V was and I got the obligatory, "That's one hell of a Cadillac look"...

You know, there are going to be a whole lotta SRT-8 owners crying foul at the competition and apparent apprehension, nevermind that there are some who may have the view that the weaker vessel is a handicap in these situations.

I don't care, I've seen plenty of "girls" kick ass at the strip, so they can cry all they want!

   Nice !!

I know you were never behind, but did you happen to notice how that SRT-8 sounded? Did you notice if she spun tires or just hooked right up? I'd love to hear about outrageous wheel hop on the SRT-8, but alas what are the chances of that?

Congrats on that perfect launch. I'm in constant fear that when that day arrives, the dreaded HOP will kill my chances of ever making such a sweet kill.

If I know my Chryslers, that shortblock is prolly close to its limits.

I had a similar incident vs. a 2004 E55. We both pulled up to the light together and I honestly didn't want to look over but he honked his horn. I look over and the guy gives me the thumbs up. The funny part is he's wearing driving gloves. Always cracks me up when people wear those. Anyway, we both know what's about to happen so I'm watching the opposite side's traffic lights so I can tell when our green is coming. Just as I see the opposing lights turn to yellow, I hear the guy start into a coughing fit. I think he's trying to signal to me that I'm going to choke. When I look over the guys face is positively red and he's taking a hit off his inhaler. Suddenly the light flashes green and I nail it. I get an easy 10 car lengths on him and he never catches up. A kill is a kill. Did I mention he was 80 years old? Anyway, a fun time was had by all. :histeric:

right here my friend, right here. So, are we supposed to be surprised? A stock V versus a stock SRT8--as I have posted before, my expectation is the V wins, in a close one. (which it sounds like it was). From a roll, the gap might be a bit bigger. The launch for the V probably needs to be decent since there is no wheel hop in my srt8, but then again, with traction control off, I need to hook em up which has taken some practice. The V rocks...no dispute there. Thats why I almost bought one. And nowhere on the SRT8 forum or here, have I ever seen anyone claiming they thought it would be different. (except me, giving CTSV05 some shit, but goofing around cause I know he is Maggiefied, meaning -no problemo for that V).

Still--I have had fun surprising a number of 350Zs, G35s, Stang GTs, and a number of others. Have not had a chance to run with a V yet, but when I do I will give it a shot. Losing to a V in a good run is nothing to be ashamed of.

She spun for roughly as long as I did... very very brief and it was two V8's going WOT to over 100mph... I don't know about what their engine sounded like, but the two engines together was making one hell of a musical note to my ears bouncing off the walls on either side of the road.

I wish I could of heard that music, I bet it was great.

It looks like this made it to the 300 forums. I read through the thread and I think they feel we are dissing their cars over here, which I don't think is the case. It was just an exciting race we all have been waiting for, and the first meeting between a V and an SRT8 as far as I can tell.

J, think we could get a pic of your ride with those wheels?

I was trying to post it earlier and the pics are too damn big (I have a 6.1mp camera so the pics are like a meg each... any tech guys want to help and I'll gladly post them).

I have to admit those SRT-8 forums look like us when we talk about the E55. They are both great cars, its essentially a preference of more performance (about a car length at the end of third in my experience http://cadillacforums.com/forums/images/smilies/peelout.gif) and a manual vs. an automatic. Price difference?? I wouldn't consider it a major factor as opposed to the E55 decision.

What I don't get is the defensiveness, no one is bashing the SRT-8 - its a beast... but in response to their forum, I had a passenger too, so... http://cadillacforums.com/forums/images/smilies/tsk.gif that won't work.

I honestly don't sense that defensiveness you question. As a matter of fact, I am often surprised how little they (we talk) on that forum about beating other cars....many seem to really like the family size sedan/muscle car combination.

Now, that could all cahnge when there are more SRT8s out there and they are broken in...who knows. And your definitely right about one thing..there really is not that much price difference...by the time I got all options, GG tax, sales tax etc...I was at $50K.

Need to get on those M3Forums / M5Forums...

They HATE our cars.

Might be a different story if the SRT- 8 was running 3:73 gears or 4:10's.

Im pretty sure that the SRT-8 is running a 3:08. Big difference on launch.

Dissing the SRT-8 ??? Hell No !! I just re-read my last post on this thread and if anyone thinks I'm dissing the Chrysler, that's not what I meant. When I bought my V, the ONLY other car on my list of finalists was the SRT-8. If it had a manual shift option, the choice would have been even tougher.

As I see it, these cars are so close in concept that "we" and "they" should really consider ourselves alies. I kind of look at the SRT-8 as the only other US-built sedan that can help us CTS-V's defend the shores against the AMG, S and M cars.

The only reason I'd like to race an SRT-8 is because I've got a healthy respect for it and because it's no fun beating up on slower cars.

I really hate to sound like Rodney King........ and I'm the last one who'd ever be accused of being politically correct (not that there's anything wrong with that) but can't we all just get along? :)

And I quote: "Of course, only a sadist would shoehorn two adults into the back seat of a CTS-V."

I have some news for those peeps on the 300C boards... I had three other adults in the car besides myself on Saturday night and we were quite comfortable. I don't know what others' experiences are like around here, but I have yet to have a problem fitting people in the V.

The SRT-8 does have 3 extra inches of leg room in the back. But it also weighs 300 pounds more. I'll sacrifice the leg room since I'm not the one sitting back there!

Agreed, the back seat is fine. Just have to make sure thet you dont have the drivers seat programmed to retract automatically!!

I regularly take adults along in the back seat. No problems here. I'm sure there are bigger cars out there...but hey, that isn't why people buy this car anyway :)

(back seats are for children)

For the smallest sedan in the Caddy lineup, I find the backseat room to be quite good. I bought this car with a 10,000 mile trip in mind. If we couldn't get larger adults in the back, I may not have gotten it. My brother and myself are not small adults. I have a friend who is 6'5" and over 300lbs. The three of us fit, along with 2 more normal size adults, with minimal squirming.
